    Not Much Going Here...

But, you know me!!  I say that and then type in 2000 words.

The main reason I'm here is to play a song requested by a dear friend.  The song is beautiful and so is she!  She visited California and we tried to meet but it didn't work out.  I'm looking forward to her next visit.  Thank You Cindy!!

The weather here has been beautiful!  Welcome to Paradise.  Temps in the low 80's, Sunny and a cool onshore flow!  After Bonnie's birthday yesterday, she is just full of herself!!  LOL!  Running around, barking at anything that moves and just raising hell today!!  I don't know what she ate but I want some!!!  LOL

My neighbors have been strangely quiet, although Billy did borrow my trash bins for his 'after-the-painting' stuff!  But we share often!

Burt was out today!!  Chasing me around the yard as I watered!!  I had to move FAST!!  lol!!  I fed him Kiwi..... Nope!!  Apple..... Nope!!  Peach?  YES!!!  But the Apricots??  Only time I see him holding fruit down with his huge... Paws??  Claws??  Hands??  LOL!  He finished off 2 in about 3 minutes!!

See?? I told you I had nothing to post!!!!

    Take care this week!

I mentioned before that we have new windows that we can actually open!!  So I have been leaving our bedroom open at night.... just a smidge!  Problem!!  We have a Mockingbird (Cat Bird) that has taken up residence in the tree nextdoor!  Fascinating birds!!  But NOT at 5AM!! For those of you not familiar with Mockingbirds??  Here:

Although many species of bird imitate other birds, the Northern Mockingbird is the best known in North America for doing so. It imitates not only birds but also other animals and mechanical sounds such as car alarms. As convincing as these imitations may be to humans, they often fail to fool other birds, such as the Florida Scrub-Jay.

    Northern Mockingbird eggs
    Northern Mockingbird chick
    Northern Mockingbird chick

The Northern Mockingbird's mimicry is likely to serve as a tool for increasing the size of its repertoire and thus its ability to attract females. The mockingbird is limited to imitating short units of sound, which it repeats several times before moving on to a new sound. As a result, the mockingbird sounds much better (to a human ear) imitating some species than others. Species with repetitive songs, such as the Carolina Wren, are effectively copied, but species with long, complex songs, such as the Song Sparrow, cannot be effectively imitated by the mockingbird.

The Northern Mockingbird, in addition to being a good mimic, is also one of the loudest and most constantly vocal of birds. It often sings through the night, especially unmated males, or when the moon is full. It sings year-round except sometimes for the late-summer moulting season. Individual males have repertoires of 50 to 200 songs; females sing as well, but more quietly and less often than males. Mockingbirds usually sing the loudest in the twilight of the early morning when the sun is on the horizon.

In addition to its well-known song, the Northern Mockingbird utilizes a variety of calls to communicate specific information. As with its song, these calls are among some of the louder sounds produced by birds of its size. Mockingbirds make a harsh, raspy noise when chasing other birds out of their territory. A similar but distinct call is used when defending against predators like a hawk or falcon. Other calls include a wheezing noise, a "chuck" note, and a very piercing series of notes "high low" repeated twice.

Needless to say, I have been waking EARLY!!!  But...... They HATE Crows!!  It's fun to watch the 'Dog Fights!!'  Of course, Bonnie goes Crazy!!

    ...........................................................................................................................................

Diamond Rio tonight!!   Marty Roe has an awesome voice!  I haven't heard from them lately but apparently they are still around!  I'll be playing more of them!

    Letters! Love 'Em!

My favorite thing about Saturday mornings..... Well, one of them.... is to read the 'Letters To The Editor' in the L.A. Times  Sports page!!  Oh Man!!  These people are GOOD!!  I always end up laughing my butt off!!  Figuratively, of course!

    Examples:

    SHAQ

"Shaq, I think it's only fair that you take the money you'll make from your revived Rap career and use it to reimburse Dwayne Wade's medical expenses for the injuries incurred carrying you to a championship".

    .........................................................................................................................................

Shaq a Rapper??  I wanted to tell Shaq not to give up his day job, but then I remembered that he hasn't been doing too well at that one either.

    DODGERS

The Dodgers should offer a one-time prize to a fan the next time a Dodgers player gets a critical hit that results in a walk-off victory.  Just make sure that the offer carries over through next season.

The way things are going, the highlight of the Dodgers telecasts is the Aflac commercial with Yogi Berra in the barber chair.

I SOOOOOO look forward to my Saturday mornings!!

    .........................................................................................................................................

Today was quiet!  Gardeners came, gave them water and jam!  They did their usual awesome job!  I spent the afternoon on the patio listening to music!  Nice day!  Fed Burt 2 Apricots!

Other than that, a quiet day!!  Sorry!!  LOL

I guess I'll leave this song up but I have a new one coming!!

Wait!  Just found this one!!  COOL!!  You know who!   "Mayberry"  'Rascal Flatts'!!

    Opossums!! Baby Ones....

I read a post  today from Isabelle (http://isasharon7.spaces.live.com/ about her trying to save an electricuted Mynah bird and it made me recall this....

This is actually a re-post of something I blogged about 3 years ago on my old (shut-down!!) space.

Eight to ten years ago our backyard was overgrown and so, it attracted Opossums.  Yes, there are 'Possums in So Cal!!!  My 'late' dog Beatrice (Sheltie) would corner them until they 'played dead'!  My solution was to throw them over the wall into my neighbor's (Crazy Lady!!) yard!  LOL  I think she was throwing them back.....

Well, one morning I found a baby one..... then two more, and another and another 2!!  Total?  NINE!!!  I thought they were cute!!  The wife??  Not so much!!  So I collected them and put them in a dog carrier!!  Gave them water and fruit but after three days of them crapping all over each other, I knew that I had to do something.  Solution:  El Dorado Park!!  Lots of woods and cover.  So I pack them up and off we go!!

Now the fee to get in there is $5, which made Becky roll her eyes!  Also, I was pretty sure it was illegal to dump wild creatures there, so I paid the $5 and found a remote spot!!   I dragged out the carrier, put it on the ground, opened the door and........... They all ran under my truck!!  They won't come out!!   Crap!!  Park Rangers are driving by and I'm waving!!  (Picture me on my hands and knees poking a stick under my truck!!)

Finally, after 20 minutes, they walk out single file and march off into the woods!!  LOL!!  The Seven Dwarfs +2!!  I get home and Becky (eyes still rolling!) looks at me and says, "You just paid $5 to release 9 rodents!  Idiot!"  LOL!!  But I felt better!

BTW, I haven't seen a 'Possum in years since!!

    .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

More canning tonight which means....... More stirring!!  Is there an ailment called 'Stirring Elbow'??  I think I have it!!  BUT...... It's worth it!!  10 jars so far and 10 more tonight!!  If I'm lucky?  Becky will wear her 'Fan Visor' tonight!!   It's hilarious but the darn thing works!!  See??

    Cactus!!!!!! YIKES!!

Yes..... today was the always dreaded 'Cactus Pruning Day'!!  Tools necessary:  Pruners, Gloves and LONG bbq tongs that will never again be used on the bbq!  This variety of cactus is FRIGHTENING!!!!!    Get within 6" and I SWEAR they jump out to get you!!  And trust me..... you don't want that!

Quick story..... Funny for you, NOT for me!  Came home from work with a 6-pack of beer (Corona, like it matters!), I set it down and it falls into the cactus!  We had just moved here and I KNEW NOT!!  Opened one, took a swig and........Confused  then this,Crying  and then THIS!!!!!!! Tongue out!!!!    Have you ever tried to shave your lips and tongue with an electric shaver???  DON"T!!!!   It doesn't work!!  OH MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Worse than the cactus!!  LOL!  Apparently electric shavers remove 'taste buds'!!!    (DANA!!  Quit pointing and laughing!!!)

I've tried killing the cactus but to no avail!!  But I did find a way to remove the little spikey things, although I'm not sure about using this method in your mouth!  Spread some 'White Glue' (Elmer's) on the area, let it dry and then simply peel it off!!

Wanna see pics of my nemisis??  No??  Tough!!  I want the world to be forwarned!!!  Dana???????  Stop!

The song tonight is by a fairly new artist...... Keith Anderson.  He's actually more well known as a songwriter.  He has written songs for 'Big and Rich', but has also performed in duets with Garth Brooks and George Jones.   I heard this song for the first time today and liked it!

I'm off to remove the few remaining cactus spines!!  (Dana??  Sheesh!!)  LOL

    Grilling!

Found this in the L.A. Times today and thought it was interesting!

    CALIFORNIA COOK

Simplicity's the secret for perfect grilling

Stick with basic equipment, keep a close eye on the charcoal and flames, and you'll get wonderfully moist results.

By Russ Parsons, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
    June 25, 2008
They seem to be everywhere I look these days. Every time I turn around, there's another one of those gleaming, stainless steel gas grills. At my hardware store, of course, but they're even in the center aisle of my grocery store. And as if some higher barbecue power were deliberately taunting me, I think for the last two weeks every other pickup truck I've been stuck behind in traffic has had one of those big boys strapped down in back. It seems like you can't really call yourself a cook anymore unless you've spent a couple of grand on a grill.

I don't know about you, but every time I see one I have an uncontrollable impulse to run out and buy another bag of charcoal.

Then I go home, light a little fire in my old kettle grill, and 20 to 25 minutes later I'm ready to cook something delicious: a butterflied leg of lamb marinated in yogurt and Indian spices, a whole chicken flattened and cooked under a brick so it's crisp and juicy, and even hickory-smoked spice-rubbed pork ribs so good they don't even need sauce. ¶ Grilling is essentially a simple art, and the only thing all that fancy equipment does (aside from giving you flashy new toys to show off) is add a modicum of convenience.

I'm more of a back-to-basics guy, especially when the basics are so simple to master. Buy a grill (a really good one will cost less than $150). Add a charcoal chimney (a sure-fire way to light coals quickly) -- and maybe one or two other little things -- and you're ready to go.

In exchange for that simplicity and cooking quality, there are a couple of things you have to think about when cooking with a live fire. The first, of course, is the fire itself. The tendency is to fill the grill with as many coals as will fit. This works well if you're starting a blacksmith shop, but cooking requires a more deft touch.

In most cases, you'll want to use only a chimney full of coals, and unless you're grilling thin, quick-cooking food such as vegetables, flank steak or fish, arrange the coals so they're sloped against one side of the grill. This gives you two temperatures to work with -- very hot directly over the fire and somewhat cooler away from the flame.

Use the very hot side to sear the meat and then move it away to cook through. I've even started cooking steaks this way. Unless you're looking for black-and-blue (charred outside, raw inside), you'll get a more moist, more evenly cooked piece of meat by doing most of the cooking over a cooler fire.

Even better, this also discourages those raging flare-ups that are the bane of every grill cook. Because the high-heat cooking that renders fat happens early, by the time the flare-ups get bad, the meat should be safely away from the fire.

This is particularly true for fatty meats like chicken with the skin on. Grill the chicken under a brick over the direct flame and you'll wind up with charred skin and raw flesh. Let it go more gently over indirect heat, though, and the skin turns golden and crisp while the meat stays moist and juicy.

This is the classic Italian pollo al mattone. I have never found an acceptable explanation for why cooking a flattened chicken under a brick would make it taste so wonderful, but there's no arguing with the results.

    A burning question

WHICH coals: hardwood or briquette? That's a question that can inspire hours of debate. The truth: It doesn't make all that much difference. Hardwood charcoal is better for most grilling, because it burns somewhat hotter and cleaner (there's very little ash left after the fire dies).

But for meats such as pork shoulder or spareribs, you're going to need the fire to cook low and slow for a few hours, so using longer-lasting briquettes will spare you the need to refuel.

Marinades are another area of controversy. They're a point of pride for some cooks, who think that there's nothing like a long soak in an herb-scented tub to improve a piece of meat.

In most cases, that's the wrong way to go. You're better off with a short dip.

The fact is that most marinades never penetrate much beyond the surface of the meat. And really, that's enough. Most of the meat we grill is fairly thin anyway, so you're very likely to have a bit of the flavored surface in every bite.

The problem with long soaks is that if the marinade contains any acidity -- lemon juice, vinegar, even the lactic acid in yogurt -- it will break down the protein structure of the meat, resulting in a mealy texture.

When I cooked the leg of lamb in yogurt and spices the traditional Indian way, marinating the meat overnight, the outside of the lamb seemed somewhat pasty in texture. When I cooked it a second time, amping up the seasoning a little, but marinating for only about an hour, the flavor was just as good and the texture was firm and meaty.

One exception to this marinade rule is brining. Brines (basically salt-water solutions) keep meats such as chicken and pork moist during cooking, and because they contain either very little acidity or none at all, they don't break down the meat.

That's also true for dry, salt-based seasoning mixes, which operate in much the same way as a brine: The salt pulls moisture from the meat and then the meat reabsorbs the seasoned moisture, giving it deep flavor.
A dry rub for barbecue is a good example. Rubs are fun to play with. Start with roughly equal measures of salt and some kind of red pepper -- such as paprika or powdered chile, depending on your palate -- and then complement them with dried herbs and spices. A little sugar is nice too. Keep tasting until the mixture hits the right note for you.

This rub is so good that I prefer to serve the ribs without any barbecue sauce. If you want to serve a sauce, brush it on for only the last five or so minutes of cooking. Most sauces contain a good amount of sugar, which has a distressing tendency to scorch and blacken.

Of course, every rule has its exception, and here it's the vinegar-based sauces that are popular in places such as North Carolina (point of usage: vinegar-based sauces that are applied throughout the cooking are usually called "mops," as in "hog mop").

There are a couple of tricks to preparing ribs. I prefer spareribs to baby back, because they are a little fattier and don't dry out during long, slow cooking. But spareribs do need to be trimmed before the rub goes on. Still, that's not hard.

First, cut away any excess fat or meat that isn't supported by a rib. You'll also notice there's a flap of meat that stretches diagonally across about half of the ribs. If you want, remove it; that way the meat will all be done about the same.

(Cook the removed bit and the rest of the meaty scraps along with the ribs and you'll have a good griller's treat that will be done about halfway through the smoking period.)

Most important, you must remove the thin, tough membrane that is attached to the bone side of the ribs (the membrane would prevent smoke and seasoning from penetrating, and the ribs would be tough).

To get rid of it, slip a thin, sharp knife between the first rib and the membrane and cut away, leaving a flap of membrane. Use a paper towel to get a firm grip on the flap and pull gently but firmly across the rack; the membrane will come up with a tearing sound. If it comes up in strips (as it probably will the first couple of times you try it), just repeat the process until it's all gone.

After that, the cooking is easy. Build a fire and let it calm a little. Add soaked hickory chips to cool it more and get the smoke going. Then put on the ribs (if you're doing more than one slab, you can buy one of those metal racks to hold them upright and create more space, or you can do what I do -- turn an oven-roasting rack upside down and stack the ribs between the supports).

You'll know when the ribs are ready because the meat will be so tender that when you wiggle one of the bones in the center, it will almost pull free. That can take two hours or more. Don't sweat the details: If the meat gets a little overdone, you'll have more of the burnt ends that are so crisp they practically shatter when you bite into them. Maybe you'll even prefer it that way.

If you're smart, you'll spend that cooking time sprawled out in a nearby lawn chair, breathing in the sweet smoke, sipping a cold beer and pitying all of those poor fools who are stuck with pricey gas grills that can't come close to this.

A Day in the Life - In So Cal!

It started with a police officer being shot and ended in a classic only-in-L.A. moment when a man with a gun darted back and forth across the busy Riverside Freeway in a shootout with police that resulted in the gunman being killed and an innocent motorist wounded in the crossfire.

By the time commuters hit the road Monday morning, the first-of-the-week crush in Orange County had already been badly snarled.  The eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed for nine hours until mid-morning, traffic was detoured onto local streets, and motorists scrambled to make last-minute changes to their commutes.

The ordeal started Sunday morning when an Anaheim police officer was shot in the leg, leading to the high-speed chase along the 91 freeway in west Orange County shortly after midnight.

Officers attempted to pull over the suspect as he fled east in his silver Honda on the 91 Freeway near the 605.  The man continued weaving through traffic at high speeds.  He hit a traffic jam near Brookhurst Street and rear-ended a vehicle, disabling his own car.

The man, armed with a gun, then climbed out of his vehicle.  He took cover behind other cars and started firing at officers.  The man was shot and declared dead at the scene.  An unidenfied female motorist was shot in the shoulder and abdomen but is expected to survive.

The gunman's entanglement with police actually began about 7:30 a.m. Sunday when the suspect was seen  exposing himself to children and adults through the window of a Best Western hotel near Disneyland.  He had a $1 million warrant out for his arrest and was out on parole.

This crap goes on daily here!!

To get some answers straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, David Thomas of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram interviewed Big Brown.

Thomas:  "Much has been written about you. Some have said you weren't worthy of winning the Triple Crown.  Some said you were merely the best of a weak group of 3-year-olds.  How does that make you feel?"

Big Brown:  "I can honestly say that I don't read newspapers, so those things don't bother me."

Thomas:  "What did you do after your Belmont disappointment?"

Big Brown:  "Not much. Just went to the barn, got off to myself and watched my favorite baseball tean play on TV."

    Thomas:  "Who's your favorite team?"

Big Brown:  "Duh - the Phillies."

When jockey Kent Desormeaux said, "I had no horse," Big Brown's response was:

"Why that little [bleep]. I drag his dead [bleep] around these [bleep] tracks and he says 'I had no horse?'  What did he think he was riding, a big [bleep] red dog??"

And when asked what he thought when Desormeaux pulled him up, Big Brown said, "I had no jockey."

    And... HOTTER!

TOO Damned HOT!!  110 here today!  Turned on the baseball game at Dodger Staduim and it was 120!!!   Gotta feel for the umpires wearing all that gear UNDER their clothes!!   And they don't get a break between innings to sit in the dugout.

I live 3 miles from the beach!!   I have central A/C going and fans, but they are barely keeping up!   I feel sorry for my neighbor's painters.... and my gardeners who will be here soon, but I have bottles of cold water ready for the gardeners.   My dogs refuse to go outside!!   I've never seen a dog actually sweat before!!  Speaking of which, I have had to water TWICE so far and I was sweating more than Dan Quayle at a spelling bee!!   I'm hunkered down here and staying hydrated!  Does beer count??  No??  Durn it!

    ...................................................................................................................................................................

My neighbor Billy came over today and brought me THESE!!

Final thoughts on the NBA Finals:

Buying NBA players to win a championship:  $60 milliom

One container of red Gatorade dumped on a basketball floor:  $15

Lakers players fighting through a crowded celebration to shake their opponent's hands:  Priceless !!!

I just wish that the Celtics would have waited another 5 minutes until the game was over to celebrate!

    ................................................................................................................................................................

My gardeners just got here!!  These guys kill me!!  It's 112 out there and they are wearing the usual sweat shirts and long trousers... and NOT sweating!!  What's with that?   I had to give them each TWO bottles of water today!!  I told him that I had friends in the Midwest who needed their services and he said OK  But I'm not sure if he understood!!   I need a pic!!  Hang on!

    Hot, Hot, HOT!!!!!

Damn!!!    108 here today!!  Hotter tomorrow!  150 in Death Valley!!   A/C on,  fans running,  eating cold melons, Wearing Boxers and a Tank Top!!   NOT HELPING!!  They say relief by Tuesday!!  Man!!  I had to water twice today!!  My dogs REFUSE to go outside!!  Becky took off for the mountains, like that will help!

Here is our forecast for this weekend:

"Excessive heat and red flag (fire) warnings will be issued for much of Southern California today as an unshakable ridge if high pressure continues to cover the Southwest.  Afternoon temperatures could reach  115 in the warmer inland locations.  To Prevent heat related illnesses, health officials urge all residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and never under any circumstances leave children in parked vehicles.  Air quality levels are considered unhealthful for the entire Southland."

    Nice!!  Come visit!!!!

    My OTHER Neighbor

You are all familiar with my Redneck/Cop neighbor.  My neighbor on the other side is a Vietnamese guy named Billy.  He is lazy, cheap and a complainer!!  He constantly asks for my advice but never takes it.  He decided that he needed his house painted and I recommened my Korean husband and wife team who are in and out in two days!!  Excellent work at a great price.  He hired a crew of Mexicans (5 !) who have been here since Monday!!  It seems as if their main job is listening to Mariachi Music and taking 2 hour lunches!!  I have yet to see a drop of paint applied!  My 'GARDENERS' would have had it painted in a day and a half!!   Here is how far they have gotten in FOUR days!

And, they even masked my SUV, as if any painting would be happening!  I don't think I can drive it like this but thanks for the gesture!!  But what about my new windows????

    Blog Photos 001

He asked me what color I thought he should paint it and handed me 393 swatches!  I told him to keep it yellow!!  It's a nice, mellow shade...... and doesn't give me a headache!  Well......  you got it!  He is having it painted in a pukey, milk chocolate brown!!  (I'll take pics when it's finished), and at this rate??  In about 3 weeks!!  I'll get a pic of Billy too!  You people are getting to know me and my neighbors WAY too wel!!  LOL!!!!

I have learned something though!!  I did not know that there was Mexican 'Talk Radio'!!

Not a peep from the 'other' neighbor but I'm sure he will be complaining to ME that the painters didn't cover up his 'Rust Bucket'!

I'm playing '10 CC' today and maybe 'Cheap Trick' tomorrow to appease my friends who like Rock, but then back to Country this weekend!
    June 18

    Mailed It In!

Loach got it right!! The Lakers mailed it in!!  And they forgot the postage!!  How pathetic was that!!  But, jocks off... oops!!  Hats off to the Celtics!!  They were the better team.  And NO Omaha Mama!!  My space isn't green in a tribute to them!!

Here are a few observations.... Please indulge me!

A case of wine, a keg of beer and 20 shots apiece might NOT be enough for Kobe Bryant and the Lakers to wash away game 6 of the finals...
Not even game-fixing referees would have helped.....
It looked strangely like an L A Clippers game circa 1988...
    As in,  over at halftime...
    Where was the passion???

ABC's Jeff Van Gundy,  after Sasha Vujacic of the Lakers was knocked to the floor Sunday by Sam Cassell of the Boston Celtics, "If you get thrown down by a 38-year-old, you need to get a new strength program."...

Fact: In 18 playoff games against the Lakers, Kevin Garnett has never failed to register  a double-double, according to STATS.LLC...

Wouldn't it be great to see him play with Bryant?
    Maybe in the Olympics...

    ................................................................................................................................................................

Larry returned today!!  He said that he was sick yesterday (surfing??), But he is almost finished with the bathroom.  Just a second coat of caulk and some touch up painting!  Then he went across the street and installed new front windows on our neighbors house!!  Beautiful!!  My next door neighbor ( NOT the Redneck!!) has now hired him to install a new front door!!  I want a COMMISSION!!  lol!  Heck!!  I'll take 10%!!  More about Larry tomorrow!!  I need pics!!  NEW project!!!!

Music tonight??  Not sure!  Thinking NOT Country!!  SHOCKER!!!  Procol Harem or 10CC!!
    Auditions will now commence!! LOL!

Procol Harem won!!  10 CC tomorrow!!  LOVE, LOVE This Song!!  Wait!!!  Emerson Drive!!  LOL!  I have such a hard time choosing!!  Because so many of you commented before I changed to my final choice of songs,  I'll leave it up tomorrow!!   It's a GREAT song!!!!!!!!  You know me and Country!!

Hope your 'Hump Day' was good!!!!

    June 17

    Lakers/Celtics

Important game tonight!!  Game 6!  If the lakers can win and take it to a Game 7,  anything can happen!!  Maybe History!!  It's gonna be LOUD there!!  "Beat L A", "Kobe Sucks", but the Lakers are fortunate to be there!!  The Celtics, on the other hand, have injury problems, a short rest and a long flight between games 5 and 6!

Footnote:  The Celtics have yet to win a Championship in this building!!  Gone is the dreaded 'Parquet Floor!'.

Anyone familiar with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith??  What an ASS!!  Just another 'Talking head'!!  Big mouth, Tiny brain!!

I read these zingers from David Letterman today regarding the NBA Refs fixing games!!  LOL!  'How you know an NBA game is fixed':

    *  " Game begins 20 minutes before visiting team arrives".

    *  " One of the Laker Girls looks suspiciously like Pete Rose"

    *  " Whenever he's open, referee takes a shot"

    *  " The Knicks won a game"

From Jimmy Kimmel..... "I can't wait to find out who the NBA decided to win this thing.... I heard they shot multiple endings"

One more from Sports columnist Scott Ostler from the San Francisco Chronicle:  "One game, Kobe Bryant can't get a call.  The next game, he is awarded two free throws when the national anthem singer hits a bad note"!!
    ...................................................................................................................................................................

Read an article in the L A Times about baseball fans being hit by foul balls!!

Although there are no official records for foul balls, some written accounts say the mark belongs to Hall of Fame member Luke Appling, who, according to the accounts, fouled off 24 pitches from the New York
Yankees' Red Ruffing in one at-bat in 1940 before drawing a walk. Stats guru Bill James doesn't buy that story, though, and says Roy Thomas, who played in the National League from 1899 to 1911, has the record with 22 foul balls in one at-bat.

    Double-hitter

On Aug. 17, 1957, Hall of Fame member Richie Ashburn of the Philadelphia Phillies fouled off a pitch that struck Alice Roth, wife of Philadelphia Bulletin sports editor Earl Roth, breaking her nose. As Roth was being helped from the stands, Ashburn fouled off another pitch, striking Roth as she lay on a stretcher. She was not seriously injured.

    Cubs lose!

Leading, 3-0, and five outs from reaching their first World Series in 58 years, the Chicago Cubs watched spectator Steve Bartman reach for a foul ball, deflecting it away from left fielder Moises Alou. Given new life, Luis Castillo drew a walk, starting an eight-run rally that propelled the Florida Marlins to the 2003 National League championship and earned Bartman infamy in Chicago. Alou said this spring he doubts he could have caught the ball.

    Lovely gesture

Two years ago, Baltimore outfielder Jay Gibbons fouled off a pitch in the ninth inning of a game in Baltimore, striking his wife, Laura, in the ribs.

    Strange stuff!!

    .................................................................................................................................................................

My neighbor, you know... the Redneck?, poked his nose out today.  I tried to get him to lay face down on my lawn and recapture the moment but no dice!!  I'll have to be patient!!  I think he actually tried to move his 'rust bucket' truck today!  First it wouldn't start (Surprise!!) and now all four tires are flat!!  I think he needs to call in helicopter support!

    .................................................................................................................................................................

FYI!  I recently purchased earbuds from BOSE for My wife to use with her iPod!!  Fantastic!!  So when my headphones went 'south' I bought their 'QuietComfort Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones!!  Woooo Hoooo!!  It's like listening to all of my music for the first time.... Perfect Day!!

My Father's Day was Great!!  I got the one gift I wanted!!  Dale Earnhardt, Jr won his first NASCAR race in 2 years!!  LOL!!  As he crossed the finish line, he ran out of gas!!  Darn!!  He didn't get to do a 'burn-out'!!  His crew had to push his car to the winning circle thingy place!  Sorry... My mind went blank!  He looked so happy.... and releived!  His last win was in 2006!  I just hope that the Lakers were watching!  It's 'Do or Die' night for them!!  And if they 'DO'??  On to Boston for the rest of the series!! NOT a good scenario!!

    ............................................................................................................................................

Now I know that you are all sick and tired about hearing about my great gardeners (Take an asprin and go to bed!) But they again outdid themselves!!  These HUGE weeds popped up back in a place where I never go (too scary!!), and I was resolved to DO something about them this week!!  The weeds are magically GONE!!!!!!!  Then they started ripping out plants..... and replacing them!!  WTH??  I'm thinking that for $20/week and 2 bottles of water, they are worth it!!   I wouldn't do it for that!!

    ..........................................................................................................................................

It's been a Lazy Sunday!!  Nice weather, dogs not barking.... just a laid-back day!!  Baxter (Dachshund) is hanging out with me and wants his belly scratched!!  LOL  Sure Boy!!  There, *Scritch, Scritch*.............!  I love these kinda days!!

    Homeless Friend

There's this old homeless guy who I often see sitting by the 'Smoke Shop' next to Albertsons.  The usual thing..  shopping cart full of his personel crap, ragged clothes, disheveled hair and a scraggly beard. Well, I started giving him a few dollars whenever I saw him, but today I gave him $5 and sat down to talk with him.  His name is Billy!  Turns out he is a VietNam Vet like me.  We both lost something..  Him??  His family and his left arm!   Me??  My faith in our government and my vocal cords.  He smelled something awful and I thought about inviting him here for a shower, but I know that the wife wouldn't have it!  So, next time you see a 'BUM' holding up a cardboard sign??  Give him a 'buck' or your change!! And if he's a Vet??  Remember that he is a Hero that fought for You and your Freedom!
I will be back to visit Billy!

I'll try got get a pic of Billy!!

    ..........................................................................................................................................

Gardeners come today!!  It's always exciting to see what 'extras' they will perform!!  I have bottles of cold water ready for them but I need to pick up the 104 balls that my dogs have left in the backyard!!  There are NONE in the house! What's with That???  Of course, the dogs LOVE when the gardeners come.... about like the mailman and UPS!!

    .........................................................................................................................................

I'm gonna keep playing Jimmy Buffet but I wanted to play this song for Billy, even though he will not hear it.

I know I promised Jimmy Buffet but I had to play this song for Billy!  Buffet tomorrow!

Hope your weekend is a FUN one!!

    June 13

    Gol Durn It!!

What the heck happened last night??  Oh Yeah,  the Lakers set a new record for futility!!  Blew a 24 point lead??  A 20 point lead in the THIRD quarter??  And then I read THIS quote!!  Kobe:  "Drink lots of wine, lots of beer, a few shots... maybe 20!  And come back on Sunday!"  WHAT??????????  The Lakers needed to win all three home games to have a chance to win the Series!!  What a pathetic, embarassing performance!!!  They need a miracle now....!

    ...................................................................................................................................................................

As I commented to some of you, my Redneck Neighbor seems to be laying (lying??) low today!!  Picking my lawn out of his teeth??  I keep asking him to get rid of that truck and he always says. "Oh yeah!  No problem!!  Next week!"  This has been going on for a year!!  Remember that piece of dirt that we had sodded?  It is 3/4 theirs but we made a deal!!  We pay for the sodding and because their hose is so close, they water!!  I have yet to see it done, so I drag my hose out there and do it.  Two days ago the Mom was out there watering her plants  but do you think she would water that small patch of grass??  HA!!  So I confronted her and reminded her of our 'deal'.  She just shrugged!  So I talked to the Redneck and his response was, "Oh!!  I'm bored so I'll do it!".  He never did!  They have a newly sodded lawn but never run their sprinklers!!  I'll take a pic.  I'll also will post the pic of 'Redneck' again!!  I SO wish I had had my camera when he was face down on my lawn!!  LOL!!   Classic!!

    .................................................................................................................................................................

HOT this weekend here!!   Yeah, yeah!  I know!! You folks back East have been dealing with it for a week!  But did you have to send it our way??  Sheesh!  At least keep your storms to yourselves!!  I'm watching my OTHER neighbor across the street watering his small trees in pots!!  DUDE!!  Three seconds of water, once a week is NOT enough!!  Oh Yeah..... This is the guy who I had water my bonsai while I was on vacation!  No wonder I lost so many!!  He is FIRED!!!  LOL  He spends more time coiling up the hose than he does watering!

    .................................................................................................................................................................

OK, I'm rambling now!!  Sorry!!  But here are those pics!!

    Better Day!!

MUCH!!  First my Redneck neighbor did his usual thing.   Walked back and forth in front of my house (Hiding from Mama!!  He is 45!!!!), chain smoking and talking on his cellphone...Constantly!!  Then I noticed something from his walk!  He was Drunk!!  At 11:00AM!!   The wobbling gave it away!!  At 1:00pm I saw him walking back for the 743rd time but this time he had disappeared!!  He was flat on his face on my lawn!!  I ran out and helped him up but forgot my camera!!  DAMN!!  But here is the eyesore that is parked next to out driveway!
