December 31 Back Home... and Happy New Year!!I hope you all liked the pics!! We had a fun and relaxing time! I'm also glad that some of you liked the song I chose to put on here. But it's been up for 3 days so I think I need to find another!!
The drive back today was scary!! 75mph winds and blowing dust!! Many Big-Rigs blown over on their sides but we made it home safely. Becky made a GREAT dinner tonight of a Hickory ham steak, Au Gratin potatoes and fresh green beans with slivered almonds and brown butter!! MMMMMMM !! Tomorrow?? A pork tenderloin stuffed with butternut squash and bleu cheese!! OMG!! Yeah..... the woman can COOK!!!!
I wish ALL of you a VERY Happy New Year and only the BEST in 2008!!!!! Chrestline ChristmasWe are back and as promised, I'm putting up a new photo album. We had FUN and I hope you enjoy it. I'll be back soon to wish you all a Happy New Year, and thank you to have already done the same!! December 30 Squirrelly!!!After the acorn pummeling my dogs absorbed yesterday, they are on FULL Red Alert today. As if they stand a chance..... These are MEAN squirrels!! I even took an acorn off the noggin today!! OUCH!!!
Now besides their squirrel issues the dogs also seem to be 'stair challenged'! Especially our Wiener dog Baxter. If one of us happens to go upstairs he will bark and whine until he gets carried up, and then the fun begins! Remember those 'Slinkys' we played with as kids?? Well that is what he looks like coming down!! Too funny!!!! And I DO have pics!!!!
It was crazy warm today!! Over 70F!!! And tomorrow??? Back to the 40's.... With snow coming Thursday thru Monday! Grrrrrrr! We just might have to come back after a short visit to our 'real' home. It never seems to snow when we are here.
Now, for anyone still using dial-up, I gotta tell ya that Verizon DSL is really great!! It cost $14.95 a month and is as fast as the caingsble I use at home. They mail you a 'kit' which includes a modem and all of the cables you will need. It took me 20 minutes to set it up and the best part is, you can be online and use your phone at the same time. The one thing is, you need to have Verizon as your landline provider... but it's well worth the switch. And NOOO!!!! I don't work for Verizon!!
We will be leaving tomorrow and making the drive down the mountain. It was alot of fun but we have things to take care of down 'there'. I think the dogs will miss it here the most, but we will be back in a few weeks...... after I get the new laptop!!! Woooo Hoooo!!! Tomorrow night will be spent downloading photos, going through the ton of mail and surveying all of the yardwork that needs to be done.
I hope you all have a fun New Years Eve (I'll be online!!!! LOL!) and a wonderful 2008!!!!! Another Great Day Here!!Yeah, even more fun!! Mehdi and I drove to the market today but stopped by the lake to take some pics. He HAD to have duck pictures taken. The ducks were cute but I took others too (after I threw him into the lake!!) At that point we actually made it to the market. The market here is pretty cool! It's Goodwins and it's better than Albertsons, although I'm still finding my way around the place.
Anyhow, we shopped for Becky so she could make Chicken Caachitore ( or however it's spelled) tonight, and it was delicious!!! I want to stay here FOREVER!!!!!!
The Scrabble tourney continued tonight and I finally realized what cheaters Mrs S and Mehdi are!! I mean REALLY!! Taking pics of my tiles?? I have pics to prove it!! BIG time cheaters and I STILL beat them! HAH!!!
Since the dogs love it and WE love it here, we may be staying thru New Years!!
I REALLY wish all of you could be here too, to celebrate the New Year! What a Party!
Nite all! I'm off to harass Mrs S!!!
Mehdi had to leave tonight and we will miss him, but it was FUN while he was here!!
Tomorrow?? More pics and more work on the cabin. And there is a chance of snow tonight!!!
OH!! And apparently the local squirrels have targeted my dogs for harassment!! The bumps on their heads and the yelping kinda tipped me off, Ya know???
Have a GREAT weekend!! December 28 Cabin UpdateSo far, so GREAT!! We are having so much fun doing absolutely NOTHING! Well.... at least Mrs S (Becky) is doing something. Cooking and dishwashing, but my job is the 'heavy lifting', so to speak. In fact, our Moroccan friend Medhi is coming here for dinner tonight so she is making a big pot of chili and baking corn bread! YUM!!!
It was a bit warmer today but we might be getting a little snow tonight. A little is fine, as long as we don't get dumped on. An inch or so would be perfect! Tomorrow I will be driving down to the lake (Lake Gregory) to take a few photos. Crestline is a very quaint little town with a population of about 1500. I had to run some errands 'downtown' today and everywhere I went, the people were VERY friendly. Compared to Los Angeles it was refreshing, to say the least.
Our cabin is situated alongside a steep, winding mountain road about 5 miles from Crestline in the small community of San Moritz, and to say it's secluded is an understatement.
In fact, last night we had a power outage here and upon going outside, it was pitch black! I literally could not see my hand in front of my face! And the only sounds were howlings of the wolves and the wild mountain dogs. Eerie!! From what I've heard, the recent wildfires here have driven much of the wildlife much closer to the uneffected areas, although I have yet to see a wolf, black bear or mountain lion... YET!! Nonetheless, I don't leave my dogs outdoors alone for any length of time.
I will try to do another post before we leave on Sunday but who knows, we may decide to stay for a few more days. We LOVE it here!
I hope you all have a Great weekend and I promise to post a new photo album as soon as we get home. Bye for now.....
Our friend Mehdi finally found his way here and we served him Becky's chili and cornbread. We sat around and relived old times, but then they both made a BIG mistake!! I was challenged to a game of Scrabble!!!! I kicked both of their butts and sent them to bed with their tails between their legs! How DARE they challenge me! Becky just came in looking for her book and I suggested that she take the Scrabble dictionary to bed and study up!! LOL! (I KNOW I will pay for this later 'but it was sooo much fun!! ) Despite what they say, I don't think that FU is a word!
I took some great pics today that I will be sure to post! December 26 R U Serious reporting 'LIVE'From the cabin! Yes, we made it, finally, and it's beautiful (and cold) here. As you can see, I got DSL installed and using Mrs S' laptop. We also had the TV cable repaired and the fireplace is working again.... Thank God! It went down to 22F last night. I know that might not sound cold to some of you but to a 'beach' person it's downright frigid!!
The puppies are having a blast! I built them a temporary dog run today. It's about 30 feet square so they seem to have plenty of room considering the want to come in after 10 minutes. Could it be the cold??
It doesn't look as if we will be getting snow this trip but winter isn't over yet.
I've taken a few photos so far but I forgot to bring the 'dohickey' that allows me to download them to this computer. I'll post them after we return on Sunday.
I hope all of you had nice a Christmas and I'm off now to visit as many of you as I can tonight!
Take care December 23 Merry Christmas!!This will probably be my last post until after Christmas. My cards have been sent and the shopping is finished. The only thing left is to wish each and every one of you a Merry and Joyous Christmas. I WILL be back to read and leave comments and to change music on my space.
The song playing now is being performed by Jennifer Warnes, who I beleive is a VERY underated vocalist.
Mrs S and I are still planning on spending the holidays at the cabin, with our 'kids', but my new laptop will NOT be going with us. Why?? Because Dell is building it from scratch and delivery is set for January 20th. (Nothing like a late gift to extend the holidays!) But I am taking my old PC and Becky is bringing her laptop. We just had DSL installed, so I will be online. We are also having the TV cable repaired and the fireplace fixed. (A tree fell on the chimney and there are a few cracks). Who knows, we may even do another dual post together! And I promise to take lots and lots of photos!! I'm excited and really haven't been in such a Christmas mood in I don't know how long!! Ages! And speaking of photos, I washed the dog's Christmas outfits today so there WILL be a 'fashion show'!!
____________________________________________________________________________________
To all of you who sent me your email addys, I hope you enjoyed the card I sent. And to those of you who sent cards to me, Becky and I enjoyed them very much!! No wonder I'm in such the Christmas Spirit!!!
Today we are kicking back, watching movies and just enjoying each other's company! Nice way to spend a Sunday, huh? I'll continue this post in a bit!! Have a fun rest of the weekend!
And in case I don't make it back.... Merry Christmas to EVERYONE!!
____________________________________________________________________________________
I screwed up tonight.
I had a drink! And then another and another and then four more! I'm an alcoholic and don't want to be! I suck !!!!!
At first I thought my drinking was because of the pain in my feet but that's not true. I'm just a drinker and I need to change my life! And having friends like you will help!
Talking about this helps, and I know you are the best friends I have!! To be honest?? You are my ONLY friends!! How sad is that... but you are the best!! And for all of you?? Have a Merry Christmas!
I'm feeling like I've let you all down so I'm going to bed
Nite
I sooooo suck!!______________________________________________________________________________________________________
December 21 Something to addI pulled down the Christmas music, AGAIN, to play one more Dan Fogelberg song (My FAVORITE!) You may want to grab a kleenex or two. I LOVE this song!! Listen to it a few times, OK?
As far as last night?? We had a Blast!! Even better than Big Lots! There was Chocolate everywhere this morning so we MUST have had fun!! And FYI, Mrs S and I dated for 6 months before we were married and we will celebrate our 26th anniversary in July!! Love at first sight!!!!
I'm planning on sending all of you, who I have email addys for, Christmas cards this weekend. So for those who I don't have addys for and want a card or just want to receive the hilarious crap I send, just leave your addresses in a message to me. Or go to bobbwrs@yahoo.com and leave it there for me.
One last thing. If you are reading this and did NOT read my previous post.... What are you waiting for? Mrs S will be so disappointed!!! (I think she suffered a wrist injury, and not from typing!) **see 'Chocolate Everywhere** above! ;)
Going to a party tonight!! Wooo Hooo!!! Christmas Cookies!! Who Knew!It was another joyous pre-Christmas night at the Serious household!! Mrs S decided that just one( or two!) more batches of Christmas cookies needed to be baked tonight and of course, being the wonderful, loving husband that I am, I volunteered to help. How hard can baking cookies be?? OK! I take that back! What the heck is 'tempering' chocolate??
Hey Ho,,,it's Mrs. S' turn now. I asked Mr. to stop at 6 batches of cookies, but he insisted that I must make the "peppermint patties"...yeah shut up, they're so much better than yorks. You guys are going to die laughing when you see the pics of him "tempering" chocolate....hehe and whoops, need to run and put on a panty liner...
Hmmmm!! NO panty liners in these cookies!! But we DID have fun!! Espesially her watching me tackle the tempering thing. I always get the easy jobs! The peppermint paties came out so well after I TOOK OVER!! But that darned chocolate was HOT!! 80F!! Don't think so! But then, as an added surprise, she brought out some previously made cookies and wanted THEM dipped in chocolate too!! ALL 256 OF THEM!!!!!!
80 degrees is too hot??!!?...heck, sugar we used to swim at Captiva and 80 would be cold!! Sheesh, men have no idea about those details. Ok, yeah Mr....you are the king of dipping and, yeah, I brought it on!!! Sissy boy, what's a few hundred more (they're really meranges but for his sake we'll call them "cookies"...geez what a homer)...
Don't listen to her!! Not HOT???? Wait until the next time she wants cookie help!!
Warm?
Thinking maybe 180F !!! But that's beside the point! The third degree burns have already been taken care of!!! The point is, we had a great time and shared a wonderful Christmas experience.
K, g'nite all. The old man is snoring...or will be soon. Tuck in your loved ones. XO's
She has confused snoring with something else!! Quitter!! I'm still here tempering chocolate and burning my fingers to the bone!! She has a BIG surprise timorrow!! Temper THIS!!!! And by the way?? The cookies came out perfect!
I wish she would get her own space!!
But I would have no friends!!!!
I think maybe you would!! Now go to bed and get off of my space!! You're scaring people away!! But your cookies are fantastic!!!!
Isn't married life GREAT??
Here are the horrible pics she took!
December 19 :( and :)As you may have noticed, there is NO music on my space tonight. Apparently my filesharing site has gone down and with it, my songs. But I will keep poking at it and hopefully it will be back up soon.
Mrs S and I are spending the week after Christmas at our cabin this year. Christmas eve will be spent at her mom and dad's and the next day we are off to the mountains. So because we will so busy, we will not be wrapping and unwrapping gifts this year. Instead, as they arrive (internet shopping RULES!) we will be ripping them open and enjoying them now! I still have something for her to open, but SHHHH!!) So far it looks as if I am the winner! I was given a new Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop (for use at the cabin, of course) and I gave her a set of Bose earbuds for use with her iPod! For anyone who hates the earbuds that came with your iPod, these things are AWESOME!!!! They even come with 3 different sized 'buds' so they fit any ear comfortably. They also work with your computer and in your car stereo.
I'm not expecting anything else this year, considering I have new teeth AND a new lawn but Mrs S deserves so much more. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!! By HER!!!!
OH!! It rained again today and it looks like more tomorrow! What says Christmas more than RAIN??? And look!!!
See the actual water?? By the way, these are Japanese 'Rain Chains' which we use instead of rainspouts. The cool thing is that they 'sing' as the water cascades down thru them. Whenever it rains, I run outside just to listen to them. I'm SUCH a dork!!
Anyhow, I'm off to internet shop for the wife and recheck my home security system!
We call her Brinks!
You can NEVER be too secure!
OK! The music is back! And I am SOO going to bed~~ December 18 In MemorialA beloved singer/songwriter passed away yesterday at the young age of 56. Yet another loss of an icon of the 70's and 80's music scene. Dan Fogelberg was a great inspiration to me with not only his music but because he was just a wonderful man. His songs were in the same vein as James Taylor and Jackson Browne. He will be missed but always remembered.
So for one night, rather than Christmas music here, I'm playing the song about which he said: "If I could have only written one song in my life, this would have been the one". It was dedicated to his dad.
Enjoy, my friends, and rest in peace Dan. December 17 A Christmas Kinda Day!We had one of those wonderful 'pre-Christmas' weekends! You know the kind. Not quite Christmas but in the mood and feeling like celebrating!! Mrs Serious baked cookies all weekend and I did my best to follow her instructions for decorating the house.
Since I had already dragged down the boxes of decorations from the garage, it was merely a matter of setting everything up! Easy, huh?? So I thought. Details, details!
OK, Ok! To be honest, it was a fun, and we had a GREAT weekend! We got the tree up, Mrs S made lots of cookies, we put some decorations around the house and I even decorated the dogs!! Now the last time I tried this they were not too thrilled, but this year they seem to love it! We even hung up stockings for them which we WILL fill! For 2 of them, it is their first real Christmas with us!
Last year we bought them Christmas sweaters, which they immediately managed to pull off. This year they love them and are wearing them 24/7! Go figure!! I'm putting up a photo album that I made today and Mrs S's cookies will be added tomorrow.
I hope you all had fantastic weekends. 9 days until Christmas!!!
(Hoping for a new laptop so I can be online at the Cabin!!
Y'all have a GREAT week!!!
And one more thing! I'm playing John Berry until Christmas!! Cos' he is just the Best!!!
December 15 'Borrowed' Instructions for BreadOK, so I forgot to mention that the folks at Cooks Illustrated tend to pinch pennies, as in making you PAY to actually read the recipes on their site. Therefore, as a public service to my friends here, I have copied and pasted the recipe below. I'm sure they won't mind when they see what a wonderful endorsement I have given to their awesome magazine Cooks Illustrated. That's COOKS ILLUSTRATED! And I was just kidding about the penny-pinching thing. Really
Almost No-Knead BreadPublished: January 1, 2008
Makes 1 large round loaf An enameled cast-iron Dutch oven with a tight-fitting lid yields best results, but the recipe also works in a regular cast-iron Dutch oven or heavy stockpot. Use a mild-flavored lager, such as Budweiser (mild non-alcoholic lager also works). The bread is best eaten the day it is baked but can be wrapped in aluminum foil and stored in a cool, dry place for up to 2 days.
INGREDIENTS
See Illustrations Below: Almost No-Knead Bread 1. Whisk flour, yeast, and salt in large bowl. Add water, beer, and vinegar. Using rubber spatula, fold mixture, scraping up dry flour from bottom of bowl until shaggy ball forms. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let sit at room temperature for 8 to 18 hours. 2. Lay 12- by 18-inch sheet of parchment paper inside 10-inch skillet and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Transfer dough to lightly floured work surface and knead 10 to 15 times. Shape dough into ball by pulling edges into middle. Transfer dough, seam-side down, to parchment-lined skillet and spray surface of dough with nonstick cooking spray. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise at room temperature until dough has doubled in size and does not readily spring back when poked with finger, about 2 hours. 3. About 30 minutes before baking, adjust oven rack to lowest position, place 6- to 8-quart heavy-bottomed Dutch oven (with lid) on rack, and heat oven to 500 degrees. Lightly flour top of dough and, using razor blade or sharp knife, make one 6-inch-long, 1/2-inch-deep slit along top of dough. Carefully remove pot from oven and remove lid. Pick up dough by lifting parchment overhang and lower into pot (let any excess parchment hang over pot edge). Cover pot and place in oven. Reduce oven temperature to 425 degrees and bake covered for 30 minutes. Remove lid and continue to bake until loaf is deep brown and instant-read thermometer inserted into center registers 210 degrees, 20 to 30 minutes longer. Carefully remove bread from pot; transfer to wire rack and cool to room temperature, about 2 hours. STEP BY STEP: Almost No-Knead Bread
December 14 NEWS FLASH!! Secret Bread Recipe Revealed!!!!I just couldn't resist... It's just so darned GOOD!! So consider this your early Christmas gift.
As you may remember, a few days ago I posted a recipe for a soup that we adore and mentioned that there was a 'secret' bread that went really well with it. Well, here it is!
We subscribe to a magazine called Cooks Illustrated. I like it because they have NO ads and their recipes are easily understood and yet they go into alot of detailed explanations of just how the ingredients react to each other and why. Kinda like Popular Science meets Bon Appetit.
Now rather than attempt to transcribe the whole bread recipe here, I'll provide the link. I'm hoping that the video add-ons work too: I tested them and they seem to.
The bread turned out beautifully and I'd include a photo except that we already broke into it! It's going to be dinner tonight with assorted cheeses and fruit. If I could drink wine, it would be even better!
I hope you try it and let me know what you think.
PS: If clicking on the link doesn't work, you know the drill. Copy and paste it onto your browser.
Is this a GREAT Christmas song or what??? ALOHA!!!!
December 12 Big Spender.... That's Me!!We were invited to an inpromptu dinner tonight to celebrate a cousin's birthday. Luckily it was at our FAVORITE Mexican place so I was SO THERE!! The food, as usual, was Great!! Although the Chili Rellenos were way El Scorcho!! Their refried beans are to kill for but I'm kinda bummed that I wasn't able to bring any leftovers home for breakfast. I'm sad to say that I broke my 'no-alcohol' pledge tonight and drank a margarita, but after 42 days I think I had one coming!! I'll be back on the wagon tomorrow.
But the funny thing was that on the way home, I zipped into 'Big Lots' (Mrs Serious' Favorite place to shop! Although I'm sure that she will be posting a disclaimer here tomorrow!) and we went crazy!! Well, sorta!! She was shocked!! Not that I took her shopping but that I took her THERE!!! Our big purchases were a measuring cup, Poinsettia plant, dog treats and a cheap bottle of wine. Not much, but we had a blast running around and laughing at all of the crap that they had on sale! Big Lots even sells furniture now and it was pretty darned comfy!!
But the bestest part was that it made Mrs Serious happy that I thought of it and we really did have a great time! Especially scaring all of the other customers out of the store!! Picture me weilding a shopping cart around in a giddy mood!! Oh! And we also bought a box of chocolate covered cherries that were 'on sale' and they were AWFUL!! We think they forgot the cherry part! My wife disputes this and swears that there was something crunchy and cherry-like inside but she is soo spoiled by Sees!!
All in all it was a fun night with tons of laughs, great food and the woman I love by my side sharing it all! Who could ask for more? December 11 Christmas Music... and none too soon!Well, after all of this music talk, I thought it was about time that I actually put some Christmas music on my space. But by now, you know me. Not just ordinary Christmas music but obscure caroles from little-known artists!!
Tonight is a familiar song performed by a Country singer that you or may not remember, or have never heard of. John Berry has one of those voices that most male vocalists would kill to have! I'm sure that he could have chosen whatever genre of music that he wanted too. Unfortunately he injured his vocal cords permanently and has retired..... at 40! My favorite non-country-sounding Country singer.
Mrs Serious and I finally got the tree put up and I would send you a photo, except she is embarassed because it's a fake one and only about 4ft tall!! But what do you expect from two people with no kids and hating the thought of a dead tree sitting in our living room, although I'm sure that the dogs would just love it! I'll take a photo when she's asleep or not looking, which means pretty much anytime!
Dinner tonight was awesome!! Actually , the whole thing started yesterday when I roasted a whole chicken-in-a-pot for dinner!! With mashed potatoes, peas and gravy, it was VERY tasty on a cold night. But my secret plan was to save the chicken carcass and make stock out of it. Nothing like homemade chicken stock as a starter to another meal. And that other meal tonight was Chicken and Dumplings!!! My favorite!! And SOOOO easy!! I simply simmered the carcass in water with chunks of carrot, celery, onion and whatever herbs you like. Strain out the broth and add new veggies along with chunks of the leftover chicken and you have a party in your mouth!! When everything is cooked and tender, make up your dumpling mix (I use Bisquick) and simply drop spoonfuls into the pot! Cook them for 10 minutes uncovered and the cover the pot for another 10 minutes and it's DONE!!!! It's a great winter, one pot, meal! You can add a little canned chicken broth too. As an aside, Bisquick to me is like Duct tape and WD-40!! Always there in a emergency, makes things easier and has so many uses!!
I guess I've rambled on enough, plus I have blog walking to do, so I'll leave you all with one last thought:
"Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals ... except the weasel."
On that note....
Nite all!!!
Dammit!!After all of that talk about music on my space last night, I find a really cool song and it won't play!! What's the deal? It's an MP3 song, which is always a little dicey on spaces (wma's work like a charm!!) but the one I have playing now is an MP3 too and it plays fine. Any suggestions?
For anyone interested it's 'The Walk' by Sawyer Brown. Grab a Kleenex before listening. So just for that, I'm gonna change songs and try this one!!
I really wanted to play that song......
So instead here is a tearjerker by Vince Gill!
BTW, This song describes perfectly how we men feel when we first lay eyes on you!! You are Evil!! Evil I tell you!!!! December 10 Music on my space..Yes! There is actual MUSIC playing here!! Do you NOT have speakers? The volume button is the one on your left!! Yeah!! That one! Or do you just not feel the need to comment either way?? I'll admit that I spend more time finding just the right music that I think you will enjoy than I do working on my blogs, but I just love music. Now I know that alot of my favorites are Country, but I do try to change things up every so often. So requests are being accepted, within reason. No Rap, Hip Hop, etc!! And definitely NO Christmas (W)rap!! So please let me know what you think of the tunes I put up and offer your own suggestions (like I'd listen to your crap!!!). Just kidding!!
Keep your speakers on and lets all enjoy each other's music!
Peace out!! (Gawd!! Where did THAT come from??) December 08 Better late than neverFinally the rains have found the Serious house!! It's not like we were hiding!! It must have been because the rain gods and goddesses were waiting until Mrs S had a fancy party to attend. Or just maybe it was Raven finally letting go of the 'rainfall powers' that she possesses?? Whatever, it started with the wet stuff this afternoon and it is expected to continue off and on throughout the night!
See???
Told ya!!!
Lucky neighbors... living at the end of the rainbow!
So tonight it's just me and my crazy dogs, living high on the hog!! Oh, hang on! My TV dinner is done!
You know, TV dinners aren't that bad nowadays, especially the ones from Stouffer's and Marie Callender's but I've yet to find a fish one that hasn't made me gag! I tend to stick with the pastas. Now where was I?? Oh yeah, rain.
No matter what the weatherman says, it always seems to elude me. Like my little town is enclosed in some sort of rainproof bubble. And being the sucker that I am, I ALWAYS beleive what they say! Dangle that carrot out there and ol' Mr Serious will follow, and then listen to the sniggering that is sure to follow. Just the slightest hint that there might be rain coming sends me into a frenzy of activity to insure that the dry things stay dry and the plants are positioned to receive their maximum rainage. And of course, there's nothing like the earthy smell of a wet dog!
But come to think of it, it might not be the actual rain that excites me but the glimmer of hope that our boring weather will actually change!! I know what some of you are thinking... is he nuts??? Southern California has beautiful weather, it seems, nearly every day! But as with everything else, too much of a good thing eventually gets B O R I N G!!!! I was raised in New Jersey where the weather was always a crapshoot but at least there was variety and there were SEASONS! Rain in the spring, changing leaf colors in the fall, snow in the winter and a summer that lasted the normal 4 or so months. I miss that but not enought to move back there. Maybe somewhere north but not too far east. Any suggestions? Seriously....
Enjoy your Sunday everyone
One more thing, for any of you who receive the Discovery channel, the series Planet Earth is an excellent and very entertaining program. It was a tossup for me tonight between that and The History of Sex on the History channel. But I beleive that at my age I can learn more by watching Planet Earth. And besides, there is more than enough sex happening on this show! Crazy lizards......
Wrong!! yet again...Yes! Our weatherpersons have outdone themselves yet again!! Remember my last blog about the HUGE winter storm that was on it's way??? Well, we ended up getting 1/16th", and that's being generous. OH!! And these same weatherpersons are now patting themselves on the back because they somehow kept the rain away!! WHAT????? IO want their jobs! I can lick my finger, put it against the wind and do better than they do!
Thing is, I was planning to do lots of winter cooking today: Homade soup and bread, tiramisu... But I decided that even though it's not rainy, I would cook anyhow! The bread recipe is a secret one, but the soup recipe is posted below.
I'm SOOO glad that I took the time to paint that threshold under the backdoor!! Those 7 drops of water that landed on it would have rotted it for sure. I wanna move to Montana!!!
I moved our 'fake' Christmas tree into the family room today. Mrs Serious is in charge from here on, but I have to say that the angel at the top is bigger than half of the tree!! I'll take pics when it's completed! I thought that the dogs would be all over it but it seems that my Santa hat is really what they crave!!
So here's that recipe!! (It's REALLY good!) Makes 4 servings as an entree and 8 as a soup
Ingredients:
1lb ground beef( or 20oz ground turkey) browned and drained
1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup celery, larged diced
1 cup carrots, sliced
2 cups potatoes cut into 1" chunks
2 (11.5oz) cans of V8 juice (one can Spicy, is desired)
15oz water
2 tsp salt and 2 tablespoons of sugar
Brown the ground meat in a large Dutch oven and drain.
Add the veggies and the liquid
Add the salt and Sugar
Bring to a low simmer and cook for 2 to 3 hours, barely covered, until veggies are tender.
At this point I like to add other ingredients such as chopped kale, corn, peas, etc! I suggest kale!! It's a very healthy food! As usual, it's even better the second day!
Now how easy is that???? Now I want to know what your favorite winter meals are??
OH!! The news is on!! They are now saying that there MAY be some more rain tonight and tomorrow!! PFFFFT!!!!!!
Have a great weekend!! I'll be here doing my Serious rain dance! Here I go!! Ungh!! Ungh!! Wadda wadda!!! Snerk!! 'OUCH!!" ..... maybe tomorrow
