November 30 How Could You?I apologize in advance... This is really sad but it happens everyday!! You will need a handful of tissues... I did!
How Could You?
When I was a puppy I entertained you with my antics and made you laugh. You called me your child and despite a number of chewed shoes and a,couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could you?" -- but then you'd relent and roll me over for a bellyrub. My housetraining took a little longer than expected, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights of nuzzling you in bed, listening to your onfidences and secret dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect. We went for long walks and runs in the park, car rides, stops for ice cream (I only got the cone because "ice cream is bad for dogs," you said), and I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day. Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. I waited for you patiently, comforted you through heartbreaks and disappointments, never chided you about bad decisions, and romped with glee at your homecomings, and when you fell in love. She, now your wife, is not a "dog person" -- still I welcomed her into our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement.I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them, too. Only she and you worried that I might hurt them, and I spent most of my time banished to another room, or to a dog crate. Oh, how I wanted to love them, but I became a "prisoner of love." As they began to grow, I became their friend. They clung to my fur and pulled themselves up on wobbly legs, poked fingers in my eyes, investigated my ears and gave me kisses on my nose. I loved everything about them and their touch -- because your touch was now so infrequent -- and I would have defended them with my life if need be. I would sneak into their beds and listen to their worries and secret dreams. Together we waited for the sound of your car in the driveway. There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered "yes" and changed the subject. I had gone from being "your dog" to "just a dog," and you resented every expenditure on my behalf. Now you have a new career opportunity in another city, and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your "family," but there was a time when I was your only family. I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the animal shelter. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said "I know you will find a good home for her." They shrugged and gave you a pained look. They understand the realities facing a middle-aged dog or cat, even one with "papers." You had to pry your son's fingers loose from my collar as he screamed "No, Daddy! Please don't let them take my dog!" And I worried for him, and what lessons you had just taught him about friendship and loyalty, aboutlove and responsibility, and about respect for all life. You gave me a goodbye pat on the head, avoided my eyes, and politely refused to take my collar and leash with you. You had a deadline to meet and now I have one, too.
After you left, the two nice ladies said you probably knew about your upcoming move months ago and made no attempt to find me another good home. They shook their heads and asked, "How could you?" They are as attentive to us here in the shelter as their busy schedules allow. They feed us, of course, but I lost my appetite days ago. At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you -- that you had changed your mind -- that this was all a bad dream... or I hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save me. When I realized I could not compete with the frolicking for attention of happy puppies, oblivious to their own fate, I retreated to a far corner and waited. I heard her footsteps as she came for me at the end of the day and I padded along the aisle after her to a separate room. A blissfully quiet room. She placed me on the table, rubbed my ears and told me not to worry. My heart pounded in anticipation of what was to come, but there was also a sense of relief. The prisoner of love had run out of days. As is my nature, I was more concerned about her. The burden which she bears weighs heavily on her and I know that, the same way I knew your every mood. She gently placed a tourniquet around my foreleg as a tear ran down her cheek. I licked her hand in the same way I used to comfort you so many years ago. She expertly slid the hypodermic needle into my vein. As I felt the sting and the cool liquid coursing through my body, I lay down sleepily, looked into her kind eyes and murmured, "How could you?" Perhaps because she understood my dogspeak, she said, "I'm so sorry." She hugged me and hurriedly explained it was her job to make sure I went to a better place, where I wouldn't be ignored or abused or abandoned, or have to fend for myself -- a place of love and light so very different from this earthly place. With my last bit of energy, I tried to convey to her with a thump of my tail that my "How could you?" was not meant for her. It was you, My Beloved Master, I was thinking of. I will think of you and wait for you forever. May everyone in your life continue to show you so much loyalty. I thought ths song was appropriate.....
November 29 So You Wanna Live In California? We aren't crazy!! Really!!!
Candy cane lawn ornament is used to subdue attackerNovember 29, 2008 SACRAMENTOAttacker subdued with plastic lawn ornamentA man used a candy cane lawn ornament to fend off a knife-wielding neighbor who had been attacking holiday guests at a Sacramento home, authorities said. Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said the man used the 2-foot-tall plastic ornament to subdue the attacker until officers arrived.
Leong said the 49-year-old suspect became intoxicated, went over to a neighbor's home on Thanksgiving and began waving a kitchen knife at people gathered on the lawn. He cut several peoples' clothing before one of them decided to fight back, police said. Authorities said the unidentified man with the knife was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
The guest who took up the candy cane was not arrested because officers determined that he acted in self-defense. Probably a redneck!!!
No knife or lawn ornament attacks in our neighborhood today...... So far! Charlotte has washed and dried all of her towels but still no sign of the plumber or her son. Luckily she has two bathrooms. I'll check on her again soon.

Saturday Funny!!
(Wouldn't you Love to have the nerve to do this??)
LETTER OF RESIGNATION
Mr. Baker, *************************************************************************************** I hope everyone is having a great longgggg weekend!! Changing songs... Maybe Brad Paisley's BEST song!!
November 28 Nice Relaxing Friday...... Until!!Yep!! Nice relaxing day after Thanksgiving. A little football, 'Deadliest Catch' marathon on Discovery channel, pickin' at leftovers. My little 10lb miniature Dachshund even chased away 2 Jehovah Witiness guys from my gate!! I was SOO proud!! I looked around my crazy neighborhood and and thought, Hmmm.... too calm! Then it happened!
My doorbell rings (I HAVE to disconnect that thing!!) and there is my neighbor Charlotte (Crazy Lady) hanging on my gate! barefoot in her housecoat!! Her first words were, "I have a plumbing problem!! My toilet won't stop running".
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"My water won't shut off!!". I'm thinking, 'I hope you didn't just crap!'! So I go over there to help, pointing out that there is a water shutoff valve that she JUST HAD INSTALLED!!!!! As I'm ankle deep in who knows what kind of water and trying to get the valve to work when she informs me that she tried to turn off the water at the toilet. Nope!! She turned it on more!! So I turn it off. She starts putting down towels (luckily she has hundreds!) while I phone Redneck #1. He is 'busy' but will send over his girlfriend! Her and I start putting the wet towels in buckets (every one leaked!) and laying them on her patio.
Here is her patio
Here's what it looked like when I left.
I just went back to check on her and she was wringing out towels and freaking!! I told her "Sit! Stay!!" Wait for the plumber! I worry about her and I DO take care of her. We have been neighbors for 25 years. I guess I'm all she has..

Here is the recipe for that Turkey breast! Soooo worth a try!!
Cook TimeLevelEasy Yield10 to 12 servings
Ingredients
DirectionsPreheat oven to 400 degrees F Fill a large bowl with water and add the leeks, swish around with your hands to get the sand out from in between the layers. In a large saute pan over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon each of butter and olive oil. Add the leeks, sprinkle with the thyme, salt and pepper and cook for about 10 minutes, turning every now and then, until the leeks are softened but not colored. Remove the leeks from heat to cool. In a large bowl combine the leeks, cornbread, and chicken stock and season with salt and pepper. Use a sharp, thin knife to cut down the length of the turkey cutting the breast parallel to the board, almost in half just stopping short of the outside edge. Open out the 2 halves as if you were opening a book. Now you've got a large piece of meat that will cook evenly and is thin enough to roll. Place 2 cups of the stuffing inside each of the breasts and then fold the turkey back over. Place the remaining stuffing in a small baking dish and cook alongside the turkey. Tie in 4 places with kitchen twine and season with salt and pepper. Heat the remaining tablespoon of butter and olive oil in a roasting pan over medium-high heat. Put the turkey in the roasting pan and sear all over. Transfer the pan to the oven and roast for about 25 minutes (internal temperature should reach 160 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer). Take the turkey out of the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes, then cut crosswise into slices. We seared the breast in a frying pan and the transfered it to a small roasting pan. Also, we only used one breast but made the full recipe of stuffing because....... We LOVE stuffing!!! We added some Golden raisons to the stuffing. Play around with it!! Sage?? Bay Leaf?? Rosemary??? ******************************************************************************************* Music tonight?? Eh!! My previous life!! LOL!
November 27 Turkey Day!!I hope you all are having or had a Great Thanksgiving! The weather here has cleared and it is beautiful!! I woke up up early this morning (actually, the dogs woke me up early!), and got these sunrise photos.
Started out like this
And this...
Then changed to this an hour later
...and this
Still big, fluffy clouds floating by.
I, We..... OK, Becky , got that turkey breast de-boned! It turned out not to be that difficult once it was fully thawed. It's been sliced (opened up like a book), stuffed, tied up with butcher's twine and is in the fridge! And we both still have all of our fingers. Here is what it looked like just before searing!
And here it is during searing!
Ready for the oven
Done!
See the stuffing??
It was Wonderful!!!!
****************************************************************************************
I visited 'redneck neighbor #2' today and it appears he has found a new 'vehicle'!!
That's his nephew, Cody, behind him... The kid I scare every Halloween!! LOL!! He will be in therapy soon!!!
Tom's brother was also there. He was the backup Quarterback at Kansas University and his license plate reads, 'UKN QBACK'! Becky always thought it meant Unknown Quarterback!! HAHA!! Actually, I guess he was!
****************************************************************************************
Couldn't find a good Thanksgiving song but this one is pretty darned good! Tim McGraw!
November 26 Yay X 2!!!The tarp worked and...... NO mudslides!! We had over 2" of rain last night so I'm glad that a tarp was put up. And those folks in mudslide danger really were prepared. Still a chance for more rain tonight but just showers. Things to be thankful for.
*****************************************************************************************
Thanksgiving this year?? Just Becky and me. Turkey, stuffing, cranberries (not the kind shaped like a can), mashed potatoes, peas, gravy and pumpkin pie. I know... pretty generic but I always look forward to it. Kinda like Corned Beef and Cabbage on St Pat's day! YUM!!!!!!
So I figured that since there were only the two of us, I would just buy a turkey breast. Becky wants to slice it open and stuff it then roll it up and tie it closed. But genius that I am, I bought one that was NOT boneless!! So I'm now reading about how to de-bone this thing. Becky found a chapter from a Julia Child cookbook on how to do it but then I had a flash-back to the Saturday Night Live skit where Dan Akroyd played her and slit his wrist!! So I am studying so I don't lose a finger!!! I guess, take your time and follow the bone. Can I come to your house?? LOL I do dishes!! I'll vacuum!!!!!
***************************************************************************************
I wish you ALL a Wonderful, Happy Thanksgiving!! I am Thankful to all of you for your friendship. This song is for Y'all!!
November 25 Bring On The Rain!!Woooo Hoooo!!!! The tarp is covering the skylight!! I got ahold of my handyman and he came here during his lunch break to climb on the roof.
He used bungee cords and bricks. It's not going anywhere!! Not the greatest photo but you get the idea!! The rain arrived 4 hours later and it is now pouring!! Now I know that those of you in the Midwest and East are not impressed but we REALLY need this!! By tomorrow night, maybe 4"!!!
Only problem is, I worry about the people who didn't lose their homes to those fires but now face mudslides. It could (will!) get bad!!
***************************************************************************************
I really messed up camera-wise today. First I forgot to get a pic of Larry 'The Hunk' on the roof. Then I went tp Albertsons and forgot my camera yet again. And what did I see?? THREE firetrucks..... 2 pump trucks and a ladder truck!! There were firemen all over the place!! You couldn't spit without hitting one!!! Of course, I would NEVER do that!! I thanked them and told them to be safe!! You not beleive how much food they bought!! Thanksgiving in the firehouse and all. I hope they get to finish their meal without any calls!
***************************************************************************************
Wonderful song tonight!! One of my favorites!! Sawyer Brown!!!!!
RAIN!!!!!! Yippee!!!!!! lol! Now we're getting thunder!! Last time I heard that was 7 years ago! November 24 Here Comes the Rain..... Finally!I could find no help with the skylight. Couldn't get in touch with the landscapers or the handyman and just my luck, not a redneck in sight! And I sure as heck wasn't going up there!!! So we are taking our chances. The last time it rained, a few weeks ago, it didn't leak so I feel pretty good about it! Where's a redneck when you need one???
*****************************************************************************************
Another favorite song of mine tonight. Montgomery Gentry

But in their defense, when storms roll in from the Pacific Ocean you never know what to expect. Rain Tuesday and Wednesday and more on Saturday. Oh yeah... And our broken skylight still hasn't been replaced! I will try to climb on the roof tomorrow and cover it with a tarp.
Here is this morning's sunrise!!
I really need to get rid of that TV antenna and the power pole can go too!! Maybe I can talk Tom and Kurt into doing it for me!! LOL!
***************************************************************************************
Quiet in the neighborhood, which kinda scares me!! I get nervous when it's too quiet!! So I'm watching Football!! LOL!
***************************************************************************************
Music on my space: I will be playing MY favorites here this week..... Starting with the #2 Official R U Serious song!! LOL!! GREAT SONG!! Who else? Jimmy Buffet!!
I hope all of your weekends were FUN!!
PS: I have scary medical tests this week. Liver, Chest X-Ray, Glucose (3 hours!!!!!) and MRI!! Pray that I put the gown on the right way!!!!! LOL!!
Take care my friends! And listen up folks!! Words to live by in this song! November 22 Back To Redneck Neighbor #1!Yeah, that one! Charlotte's (Crazy Lady's) son Kurt. I heard some commotion outside of my garage so I had to check it out. Of course, I took my camera! (Sorry, no plumber's crack photos!) They were having their water service replaced by some tool of a guy named Jerry. I was the observer, Charlotte was the hand-wringer and of course, Kurt was the supervisor! Oh Lord!! Luckily, Jerry managed to get the job done quickly so he could escape! He actually did a great job so I got his card.
Then Kurt got all excited and started jumping up and down, wanting to show me his newest purchases!! A rusted out used Vespa and a 10-speed bike with one wheel and no gears!! The perfect accent to his truck!! Check out the seat on the bike and the lack of one on the Vespa!! LOL!!!!
Here is the Vespa! Ummm... Seat???
Here is the 10-Speed... Homemade seat!! LOL!
A perfect match for his truck!
Check out the rear tires!!
And you wonder why he is Redneck #1 ??? Thank God there is a wall between us!
I am SOOOO hoping to get a photo of Kurt on the Vespa and Tom on his pink bike riding together!!! I think I can pull it off!
***************************************************************************************
The gardeners were late today (their mower broke down) so they mowed in the dark!! Still a great job!! They now have five lawns on this street...... I want a commission!! Haha!!
Montgomery Gentry tonight! (The official R U Serious spaces song!) November 21 Killer WhalesThis TV program came on Nat Geo today, supposedly about Whale Watching on Monterrey Bay, Ca. I thought, 'How cool!!! I've done that before and it was fun!!!'
So off in the distance they see alot of splashing and everyone is excited. As they get closer they realize it's a pod of Killer Whales (Orcas). A rare sight! People are snapping photos and taking videos. Then they see someting much larger in the water. It's a female California Gray Whale and the Orcas are attacking it!! (Killer Whale actually means whale killer). They are trying to drown her, jumping on her and holding her underwater. Now Gray Whales can hold their breath (mammals) for 15 minutes but this whale had not eaten since the last time she was on her feeding grounds, about 6 months ago, so she is weak. The eight Orcas are relentless and are all over her. Then the folks on the boat spot something else..... a three month old Gray Whale calf! The Orcas split into two groups and are attacking both whales... using their tails. head-butting, biting and laying on the whales heads. At one point the mother rolls on her back and puts her calf on her stomach but then she couldn't breathe. Then, as if things weren't bad enough, another ten Orcas join in!! Now there is blood in the water and they are in DEEP water. The Orcas are working like tag-teams with short breaks in between attacks because they are getting tired too. It had been 4 hours since the attacks began.
Then ever so slowly, the mother begins pushing her calf towards shallow water (Orcas hate shallow water!). After another hour, in shallow water, the Orcas suddenly break off their attack and swim out to sea!! Both mother and calf survived!!! And after 5 hours, the Orcas got nothing!!
Oh yeah, this attack took place on a Mothers Day! It was definitely NOT what I expected.
****************************************************************************************
My neighbor 'Pinky' bought a bell to replace his horn!! Still waiting for the pink basket! He took off on his bike about 2 hours ago with several large bags of bottles to be recycled and still hasn't returned. Uh Oh!! He may have to buy a Hello Kitty cart for his bike.
****************************************************************************************
Hope you liked the last song. New one tonight. If this one doesn't make you cry, you have no soul! lol!!
Have a Great weekend all!!! November 19 Hello Kitty!Upon closer inspection, that bike is not a Hello Kitty. However it IS pink and a girls bike! It's actually called a 'Key West Mango'. And after a month and a half he finally got it fixed so the chain doesn't keep falling off. I hope you enjoy these pictures as I risked life and limb getting them. I couldn't get one of him riding it but I did talk him into sitting on it. Also, he wouldn't take his darned shirt off. I told him that some day he would look back at these photos with fond memories! LOL!! His response was, "You're gonna blackmail me someday, aren't you??". ME?????
So here they are!!
Notice the 'souped up' seat and handlebars! Someone stole his new horn.
Have a Great day!!!
November 18 Redneck Neighbor #2You remember him! The 45 year old guy who lives with his mom and dad across the street from me. I have witnessed several near-fistfights between his dad and him. He lost his job and his car so he bought a bicycle. Now this is not just any bicycle, oh no!! It's a pink, girls style 'Hello Kitty' bicycle!!! His dad and he have been working on it for over a month (I have a front row seat through my picture window). I think he's also trying to 'soup' it up!! HAHA!! And of course, they argue over it every day! Also every day, they will 'work on it' in the morning and then Tom zoom off, only to come walking it back an hour later. I think he added a horn today! I'm waiting for the pink basket!!!
I have GOT to get a photo of that bike!! Even better, with Tom riding it down the street and waving at me! Big smile on his face and no shirt!!
*****************************************************************************************
Short fire update.... Good news for a change!
The winds have diminished down to nothing, humidity going up and 20 degrees cooler tomorrow through the weekend. Also, no deaths occurred and it was NOT arson this time!!
I turned on my Country radio station this morning and they were taking donations for the people who had lost everything. It was pretty cool! They set goals and every goal was met. Between 5am and 6, $5500. Between 6 and 7, $6500. Etc.. But what got me was a call from a woman whose family had lost everything..... And she donated!!!! She figured that there had to be people worse off than her. A lot of fierfighters donated too, as if they hadn't done enough already.
Tim McGraw tonight. I PROMISE you will like this one!!
Be Well!!
November 17 Earth, Wind and FireIn Orange County, Ca... the earth is scorched (at least no earthquakes!!), the winds have subsided but the fires countinue. The first fire, Sylmar, is 40% contained while the other three are about 20%. However, things are beginning to look better. All of the fires should be out by the end pf the week.... Just in time for the next round of Santa Ana winds. Air quality is very good today but it's still very hot.
Some of our firefighters have been on the fire lines, with little rest, since late last week. As our Governor 'Arnold' said yesterday, "We have the best, bravest firefighters in the world!!".
Here are two stories and more photos:
Residents return to fire zone: 'We have no home'Residents find that little survived in the path of the fire in neighborhoods in Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills.ANAHEIM HILLS Claudia Ybarra knelt on the sooty ground outside her apartment, surrounded by a few plastic bags of clothes, some grimy file folders and a vacuum cleaner. That's what she owns now. Next door, a neighbor crunched through the charcoal rubble and broken glass of his apartment, shaking his head. Another neighbor walked past and called out, "Well, good luck. I lost everything." The pastor from a nearby church approached and offered her pizza. In the hillside neighborhoods of Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills, apartment dwellers and mansion owners came home Sunday to find themselves in the same place. Their homes were gone, and their belongings had been reduced to the few odd items that firefighters had pulled from the smoke and wreckage. A sooty wedding picture. An autographed baseball. A vacuum cleaner. ""I'm going to miss just sitting on the couch and watching TV," Ybarra, 34, said as she loaded her car with the bags and boxes that firefighters had salvaged from her apartment. "Now you're like…" She paused. "We have no home. You take things for granted." Miles away, on a ridge-top neighborhood in Yorba Linda, firefighters were still spraying foam on a smoking garage down the street when Hanna Haroutounian arrived at her house. She put her hand over her eyes and sobbed as she walked up the front walk, stepping over broken roof tiles and under a piece of gutter that had peeled away from the roof. Her family had lived in the big home on Big Horn Mountain Way for nine years. They had remodeled last year. Now her footsteps crunched as she made her way over blackened timbers into the front entry that had collapsed with part of the roof. "This is our house," she said, "our sanctuary." The neighborhood of spacious homes and tidy lawns had been smothered with smoke and lit with fire on Saturday night. At least 16 homes burned there when a wildfire front ripped up a nearby hillside. On Sunday, residents returned to find firefighters still hosing down hot spots and smoke still curling above some destroyed homes. Those who were fortunate offered beds and support to those who were not. "It's hard to stay composed when you see a whole family come home and just break down," said Tyler Toomey, 19, who had spent the night keeping watch over his family's home as embers streamed from burning houses nearby. Down the street, Vas Arora drew his family to him as he stood in the brick archway of his home. It was almost all that was left. The blackened wreckage behind the door: That was his family's pictures and videos, his wife's wedding dress – "Things that you save for the rest of your life." "I don't know what to call it when it feels like you can't breathe," said Arova, 67, a retired engineer originally from India. "But that's what it feels like." "I came to this country with zero dollars in my pocket," he added. "We built this. We'll build over again." At the Cascade Apartments in Anaheim Hills, Rian Thomas, 27, returned to the second-floor apartment that she and her new husband had moved into a few months ago. It had ceased to exist, and she was thinking about her husband's pocket watch lying somewhere in the rubble. She had given it to him as a gift, and he had worn it in their wedding. It was engraved with the words from a favorite song: "We will carry on." "It's gone," she said as she watched a firefighter pick through the wreckage of her apartment. "There's nothing we can do. We've just got to move on. I'm in disbelief. "I mean, that was my room, right there. He's walking in my room." A few buildings down, a 33-year-old man named Jason, who said he was uncomfortable giving out his last name, made his way through an apartment littered with singed baseball cards – the remnants of his collection. Wires and soggy scraps of insulation hung from the ceiling. He found a prized autographed baseball and took it outside. He found his collection of autographed baseball bats – all of them carbonized black. "It's heartbreaking," he said. "I got nothing left. My wallet, it burned. I got nowhere to go, you know?" He shook his head. "We got nothing. Absolutely nothing, man. Nada." "Why?? They saved my damned house!" Picking Through What's Left No Comment... Don't Live Here! Steve Lopez, L A Times Columist It's 90 degrees in November, the full glory and perennial curse of Southern California on fierce display. Devil winds, hill-hopping infernos, smoked mansions, torched trailers, barren freeways, and brilliant sunsets lingering in low-hanging canopies of burnt dreams. But we do. They had been high school sweethearts 30 years ago in Pennsylvania. But after a misunderstanding over a date that Bloss didn't show up for, they split, moved to different states, got into medicine unbeknownst to each other, married and had children. The timing wasn't perfect for a romance, but a close friendship blossomed. Bloss moved to Los Angeles and they hooked up with other friends and rented a house in Granada Hills. But the neighborhood was a little dicey, so in July, they jumped when a friend moved out of state and offered to rent them her trailer in Sylmar's Oakridge Mobile Home Park. **************************************************************************************** Take care my friends and please don't forget the people here who have lost everything.
Playing Ty Herndon tonight. Remember him?? Great voice and song!
November 16 Firestorm UdateWhat a horrible scene. That mobile home park in Sylmar lost 500 trailers. They are using cadaver dogs to go through it. The fire destroyed those homes in 20 minutes! Becky and I were lucky... so far. When I went outside this morning to get the newspaper, I started coughing and gagging because of the smoke and it was still 'snowing' ash. Thankfully, that has passed.
Good news: The winds have died down a little and the humidity is up to a whopping 20%.
Bad news: The fires are only 20% contained and 2 more have popped up near us.
At the Yorba Linda fire, the firefighters had no water pressure and had to stand and watch as homes burned one by one like matches. The newest fire in Diamond Bar is sending up huge plumes of black smoke. Black is bad, white is good!
I will be back to update this post later. In the meantime you can go to www.latimes.com and www.ocregister.com for photos stories.
PS: You know you're in trouble when you are watching a DC-10 water-dropping plane on TV and you look outside ad see the same plane flying over your house!!
Back soon.
Here are some new photos:

More good news!! Cadaver Dogs found nothing!!
I just watched a story about a young guy who helped his elderly neighbor get his family out, along with his furniture....... while his house across the street burned to the ground. The firefighters aren't the only heros.
Adding a funny! I need to!
November 15 FirestormThey are calling this a Firestorm rather a Wildfire because of the high winds and because how fast it is moving. One person described it as water rushing down over a hill! 50mph sustained winds with 90mph gusts. It's currently 95F and the humidity is around 10%. The fires are 0% contained. The skies over our house are brown and all you can smell is smoke. The worst part is that these fires are so close to Los Angeles. Here's how bad it is:
1. A 600 resident mobil home park in Sylmar was almost completely destroyed (95%) within 30 minutes. When the firefighters arrived they were confronted with a 50 foot wall of flames and had to run for their lives. Four firefighters were injured.
2. All of our interstate highways are closed so no way in and no way out.
3. High tension power lines are being destroyed so L A is slowly losing power.
4. Three new fires just broke out in Orange County (my county) and the nearest one is 30 miles away! Becky is packing suitcases just in case. We have a steel roof but I am continually checking for embers since the winds are blowing our way and sideways!
5. Authorities tried to inform people about whose homes were saved or destroyed but they couldn't because the street signs had melted.
6. It's now 'snowing' ashes here!! The closest fire to us is now raging!!
7. Two fire trucks were destroyed!
I don't know how much longer I will be online because of a power outage or evacuation. I will update this post later! I hope... Check back on us later.
Here are few photos"

News van barely escaped
Here is one I took showing the smoke above us.
Here is what our sun looked like today!
And here is our moon!
As you can tell, we are still here! We have had evacuation warnings but so far, so good! The winds have died down a little and those aerial water drops seem to be working. We seem to be out of danger.
Hope your day was more relaxing than mine! I did manage to scramble up on my roof with with a garden hose!
Getting away from the CMA winners, here is a song by Kenny Chesney that I love.
Well..... It looks as if we were spared, however I won't sleep well tonight.
I think I will add to this post tomorrow. I'm exhausted!! More photos.
Well.... things are flaring up again so it will be a long night! Becky and I will be taking turns watching the house.
Have a Great Sunday!! Hopefully I will be sleeping in!!
November 14 Here We Go Again!!Our Santa Ana Winds are back, humidity is around 20%, temps are approaching the 90's and yes, there is a fire raging in Montecito near Santa Barbara. You have heard it all before. And we were informed today not to expect any rain until at least December!! The drought is on!!

Funny!! We have (had) this OLD floor lamp that for no apparent reason completely fell apart today!! As the lamp hit the floor, Bonnie hit the ceiling!! LOL!! When she finally came down we took turns breaking it into pieces so it would fit into the trash. only problem was, it was plugged in behind a 800lb china cupboard thingy and it took me an hour, and a wound to my arm, to get the plug out. So the demon lamp is gone and Bonnie was such a huge help! Especially while I was on my stomach on the floor trying to get that %*&#$@* plug out!!

Went to Albertson's (grocery store) today and as usual I forgot my camera. It's getting better!! They have signs up along the aisles and they now pass out maps!! LOL!! But I made a HUGE mistake!! I got in a checkout line behind two old Vietnamese women. Now if you lived in SoCal you would know:
1. They drive at a top speed of 15 mph
2. They do NOT understand the concept of one-way streets
3. They wear oven mitts while driving
But the worst thing is at the checkout aisle at the grocery store. Here's how THAT goes!!
1. Their groceries are scanned bagged.
2. They fumble around for cash, finally pull out a checkbook or, God help us all, use a debit card! That always means re-training.
3. If using cash, the change MUST be counted THREE times!
4. When they receive their receipt, that must be checked at least FOUR times.
By then, their groceries are bagged but still sitting on the conveyor thing and and mine are being bagged and added to theirs!! Today they had to shut down checkout aisle while we went through EVERY item to determine whose was whose!! "Mine, yours, yours, mine, mine, etc!!!". But you know?? If I moved to Vietnam, I would have the same problems too..... Except for the oven mitts!!! Bless their hearts!

Oh!! As I was face down on the carpet having my face licked while trying to get that plug out, the doorbell rings, and rings, and RINGS!! I answer and guess who it is?? My new bestest friend Charlotte! She was there to inform me that there was a piece of paper under one of my windshield wipers!! I told her that I had just returned from Albertson's and it's only an ad. Her reply was, "They do that?". I gave it to her. It was from some place called 'Tip Top Nails'!! Sheesh!! Maybe her son can use it!

I saw her live and she cried all the way through it! Not my favorite but VERY good!! They also won 'Duo of the Year'. Have a SUPER weekend!!
November 13 CMA's I thoroughly enjoyed the Country Music Awards last night. I thought that Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley did a really good job as MC's. I was a little disappointed with some of the choices. Especially Rascal Flatts receiving only one award!! Dagnabbit!! However, I plan on 'trying' to play some of the winners on my space this week.
The first 'Winner' is by George Strait. This song (I Saw God Today) won the award for Best Single.

Still no Burt the Tortoise so I assume he is hibernating somewhere in the bushes. He will be fine. If I found him now and woke him up, he would have a tortoise-fit, plus I'm sure that he can't back under the house.

Now for Today's Funny:
Installing PC Software
1. Examine the software packaging until you find a little printed box that
explains what kind of computer system you need to run the software. It should look something like this: SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS 2.66GHz PROCESSOR OR HIGHER 56K MODEM 2719.7 MB FREE DISK SPACE 3546 MB RAM 432323 MB ROM 05948737 MB RPM ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM 2 TURTLE DOVES. NOTE: This software will not work on your computer. 2. Open the software packaging and remove the manual. This will contain detailed instructions on installing, operating, and trouble-shooting the software. Throw it away. 3. Find the actual software, which should be in the form of either a 3.5-inch floppy diskette or a CD-ROM, located inside a sealed envelope that says: LICENSING AGREEMENT: By breaking this seal, the user hereinafter agrees to abide by all the terms and conditions of the following agreement that nobody ever reads, as well as the Geneva Convention and the U.N. Charter and the Secret Membership Oath of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks and such other terms and conditions, real and imaginary, as the Software Company shall deem necessary and appropriate, including the right to come to the user's home and examine the user's hard drive, as well as the user's underwear drawer if we feel like it, take it or leave it, until death do us part, one nation indivisible, by the dawn's early light, finders keepers, losers weepers, thanks you've been a great crowd, and don't forget to tip your servers. 4. Hand the software to a child aged 3 through 12 and say, "(Name of child), please install this on my computer." 5. If you have no child age 3 through 12, insert the software in the appropriate drive, type "SETUP" and press the Enter key. 6. Turn the computer on, you idiot. 7. Once again type "SETUP" and press the Enter key. 8. You will hear grinding and! whirring noises for a while, after which the following message should appear on your screen: The Installation Program will now examine your system to see what would be the best way to render it inoperable. Is it OK with you? Choose one, and be honest: | YES | | SURE | 9. After you make your selection, you will hear grinding and whirring for a very long time while the installation program does who knows what in there. Some installation programs can actually alter molecular structures, so that when they're done, your computer has been transformed into an entirely new device, such as a food processor. At the very least, the installation program will create many new directories, sub-directories, sub-sub-directories, on your hard drive and fill them with thousands of mysterious files with names like "puree.exe," "fester.dat," and "doo.wha." 10. When the installation program is finished, your screen should display the following message: CONGRATULATIONS The installation program cannot think of anything else to do to your computer and has grown bored. You may now attempt to run your software. If you experience any problems, electrical shocks, insomnia, shortness of breath, nasal discharge, or intestinal parasites, you should immediately swear, like this: *!%!$&$%&*^$*!#$#!$*^&. 11. At this point your computer system should become less functional than the federal government, refusing to respond even when struck with furniture. 12. Call the toll-free Technical Support Hotline number listed on the package and wait on the line for a representative, who will explain to you, in a clear, step-by-step manner, how to adopt a child aged 3 through 12 Have a GREAT Friday!!!! November 12 Hump Day!!I appreciated all of your comments very much. Then I visited my German friend's space. WOW!! I didn't realize he was a Neo-Nazi!! He can call it what he wants but after I cool down I WILL be commenting to him.

While I was watering, Charlotte, my old neighbor (Crazy lady) rang my doorbell. She informs me that someone tried to break into her house last night. She wants me to cut her a piece of wood that she can use to block the window from opening (it's a vertical sliding window). So I grab my tape measure and a saw and head over there. She shows me the window and there is already a piece of wood there! 4 feet long and square on the sides. When I point out that the window can only be opened 1 inch her response was, "Well, round is preferrable"!! I tell her it's fine. Again, "round is preferrable"!! I ask her if she has any 'round' wood dowels and she now wants me to go to Lowes and buy her one!! I explain once again that her window is secure and by the way.... Where is your son Kurt?? You remember him.... The Hillbilly!! "Oh, he won't be home for 30 minutes". So I left to "round is preferrable!!!". SHEESH!!!!

Tonight, Brad Paisley's newest!! Don't forget the CMA's!!
PS How do like Bonnie's bikini!! LOL! (profile photo) November 11 Veterans DayI greatly appreciate all of the 'Thank Yous' I received. You all are the Best! What I can't figure out is why I'm the only one on my street to fly my flag!! And I know there are Veterans living here. I actually confronted a few of them and got excuses like, 'My flag is tattered' or 'My pole broke'!! What??? There's a WalMart 3 blocks away! I don't get it! Rant over!!
I read this in the Orange County Register today and I thought I would share:
Three wars and a lot of history for this MarineA retired Marine pilot will share his experiences with Marines at Camp Pendleton on Wednesday.By LINDSEY BAGUIO
THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
MISSION VIEJO - Ask C. E. "Snuffy" Brown about his days as a Marine pilot and he'll deliver a story with a punch of humor and wit. It's part of his shtick as he prepares to deliver a speech to 800 Marines with the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton's annual Marine Corps 233rd Birthday Ball on Wednesday. After serving 24 years, Brown retired from the Marine Corps as a Major. "You might say it was thrilling," said Brown. "It was a great life when they weren't shooting at you," he said with a smile. He piloted planes during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. In aviation, he says, it breaks down to a simple theorem: Takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory. And sometimes "you land without your airplane." At 85, it's the politics and jokes that he recounts as he combs through memories from his Mission Viejo home, scratching at his arms, which he explains is a condition that was caused by Agent Orange, the defoliant used by the military in the jungles of Vietnam. THE WARS Brown classifies WWII as the second rebellion. He was stationed at bases in the U.S. and was sent to Luzon, Philippines. He piloted Dive Bombers on missions he called milk runs. "You went to the target, bombed, and came home. It was another day on the farm," he said. The attitude was much different than fighting in Korea and Vietnam. "We were teenagers. We were indestructible; no one could kill us." "Everyone was patriotic in WWII. Everyone wanted revenge on the Japanese." He can recall the message was everywhere – propagated by Hollywood. He remembers Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart going to war. The Korean War was different – he calls it a police action. Brown, stationed at Buson and Kangnung, piloted a F7F-3N Tigercat armed with rockets, napalm, and canons. He flew 100 night missions – flying 20 feet above the ground aiming for enemy trucks on the three main roads out of China. It was such a small plane that he could reach out and touch the guns with his hands. In Korea he remembers "death was all around and you had more responsibility because you were up the ladder more." The Vietnam War he calls Johnson's folly. "All of us were disgusted by the politics; however, in the military you can't say anything against the commander-in-chief." In Vietnam, he was stationed at Danang for a year, shuttling generals across the Pacific Rim. THE LOSSES When it's time to talk about the tough stuff he leans forward from his recliner and sets his chin against the back of his cane. "You try to remember the funny things and forget the ones when someone doesn't come home," he said. He doesn't share much. The numbers say it: When he graduated from flight school in 1944 there were 1,000 cadets in his graduating class. By 1954, he was 1 of 4 surviving members. "It wasn't my time," he said. RETIREMENT Brown retired in 1965 after receiving a request. He remembers it vividly. He was sitting at Danang writing orders when the mail clerk had dropped a letter on his desk. His sons had written him a letter asking if they could graduate with their friends at Foothill High School in Tustin. "I said, 'You bet.'" They had been to a total of eleven schools.
When he finally retired, he became a flight school instructor for Douglas Aircraft. He taught airline pilots how to fly the DC-8, DC-9, DC-10 and C-17 which are still flying today. Brown was married for more than 56 years. He remembers his wife, Elaine, as the hero of the family – raising their two sons. "She was the supply sergeant, the paymaster sergeant, the sergeant major, the executive officer, and the commanding office of the Brown household," he said. She died four years ago. In their home he proudly displays two model airplanes he flew in the war and he has pinned his medals onto a formal jacket. He is most proud of the Distinguished Flying Cross medal. Now, Brown is part of Casta del Sol Marine Club, a volunteer organization, in a Mission Viejo retirement community that holds fundraisers and provides other supportive services to the city's adopted Marines. He lives by the motto: "Once a Marine, always a Marine." WOW!!!! What a guy!! About Carroll "Snuffy" BrownAge: 85 Residence: Mission Viejo Birthplace: Dallas – Fort Worth, Texas Family: Wife, Elaine, deceased; sons Brian and Scott; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren PS Has anyone heard about 'Black Thursday' during WWII?? We sent 110 B-17 bombers into Germany for a daylight bombing run without escort (Our fighters could not carry enough fuel to get back). Of the 110 B-17's, 65 were destroyed and over 600 airmen died. The Germans had 1,100 fighters in the air. Soon after, the P-17 Mustang went into service with a far greater range and that soon ended. (Sorry... Watching History Channel!!) Yeah, yeah, I know..... I've been watching the History Channel Veterans Day marathon all day!! I had a really good song to play today but it's protected, so I'll leave this one up. It's a good one too. I hope you all had a good day and if you had the day off, You're welcome!! LOL!
November 10 Poked, Prodded And Probed!Yes, my physical exam was today. I like my new doctor and I think it went well. At least he assured me that I won't be dying in the next few days! HAH! It took a full two hours and most of the time was spent asking and answering questions. He performed an EKG, blood pressure, eye and ear exam... even a nose exam!! Along with the "cough for me" one was the dreaded Prostate exam. He asked me if I wanted one finger or two!! When I said "WHAT?????" He laughed and said that some people want a second opinion! Funny guy!!
So all in all it went well. However, he gave me 'homework'! In the next 30 days (my next appointment) I have to schedule a chest x-ray and an abdominal ultrasound. Also a full blood workup and a 3 hour glucose test (to test for Diabetes). He also thinks that I may have a ruptured disk in my back which is causing my foot and leg problems. Whew!!! I will know more in a month. Luckily my hands and sense of humor are still intact so I'll keep blogging! More good news!! I didn't put the gown on backwards this time!! I feel better just going through it!!

Becky's computer (this one) has been running really slow. Now, I run adware scans, virus scans and remove temp files regulary but tonight I checked her registry. 2062 invalid entries!!!!! YIKES!!! After running a Registry scan it's faster than ever. I would have done it maunally but one false move in your registry and you are, well..... screwed!!! VERY tricky!!

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day. I have 5 Poppys and my flag is ready!! Please do NOT forget!! And remember that we served for YOU, not ourselves! I will find an appropriate song for tomorrow.
Love you all!!!
