    Maytag...... Yet Again!

Yes.....  we had to call them again because the damn thing refused to make ice!  And ice is a good thing.  This time they sent out a guy from a different company... a 'specialist'!!  I didn't take his photo because he wasn't showing 'crack' (sorry Lena!) but here is his van!   He looks alot like the last guy they sent!

    Maytag 007

Apparently Maytag, that's M-A-Y-T-A-G, didn't install the NEW compressor properly so this guy is doing it over.  Again with the blowtorch!!!  He's been here for 3 hours so far and I'm not sure what, if any, progress has been made.  But if he can't fix it, we want a replacement!  We have lost even more food!

Now, I have always maintained the the 3 greatest inventions known to mankind have been Duct Tape, WD-40 and Bleach!   But I have added a new one to the list!  Ajax cleanser!!  I attempted to make brown butter last night to pour over some ravioli and it turned out to be BLACK butter!  Just scorched the pan!  I tried soaking it in hot water, to no avail, but a little scrubbing with the Ajax, that's A-J-A-X, made it look like new!!  WD-40 and Duct tape just wouldn't work!!

On a final note, who is this woman and why is she taking pictures of my house??

    Maytag 006

Strange things going on here!  Strange!!!

Tonight's song is by Clay Walker!  'That Ain't My Truck'!

By the way..... In case you are curious as to why a Jersey guy living in So Cal loves Country so much?  I was born in SOUTH Jersey and now reside in SOUTHERN California!  'Nuff said y'all!!!

Got a little frisky with the wife tonight!   She made a remark that I had never shaved her legs before!   Mrs S commented to me that during the Summer months 'hair pants' (I assume you know what 'hair pants' are!)  are NOT allowed, but during the Winter months they are sometimes OK.  Tonight she dragged out her 'electric' and gave me her cutest smile!  Asked me for a 'favor'!!  So I dug in!  WOW!!  Kinda like mowing the lawn after a good rain!!  (She's gonna kill me!!)    Jeremiah Johnson comes to mind!  LOL!  I 'did' one leg and she did the other.  Smooth as a baby's butt!!  Now she's working on the dogs!!   Crap!!

By the way!!   BEST 'Lost' EVER!!!!!

    GRRRRRR!!!! and OMG!!!!!!

GRRRR!!!:  The fridge seems to be fixed!  It's cold and we have moved the food back in!  But it's still not making ice!!  So we may (DO!) have to call Maytag, that's M-A-Y-T-A-G, and have the short, white-socked guy return and whip out his blow torch once again!  But at least the food is staying cold and fresh.  Mrs S did some major shopping today so we can eat again.  She did a GREAT job as far as buying Super Bowl munchies!!  By the way, when I snapped that photo of the Maytag guy, he jumped about 2 feet!!  LOL!!  I told him it was proof that he actually showed up, but he was eyeballing me and NOT very happy!!

Now the OMG! part: I'm watching a program on the National Geographic Channel about weird and deadly foods that people eat!   Maggots??   Fly Larvae??  Dog??  Goat Eyeballs??  Pig Testicles??  Excuse me while I barf!!   But the worst and deadliest was tht 'Fugu' fish from Japan!  100 times deadlier than Arsenic if not prepared properly.  200 people die every year from consuming this and yet people still love this tough, tasteless Blowfish!!  I think it must be a macho thing!  'I Survived!!'  It has to be prepared exactly and the preparation is monitored by both Japanese and American health officials, but still!!

OK!!  I have to change channels!!  The deep-fried Tarantulas and the sauteed earthworms did me in!!

I've decided that ONE more night of non-country is about all I can take!!  So Supertramp it is!

Ya know what?  Screw Supertramp!!  I'm playing COUNTRY on this space!!   Here's Clay Walker!!  Wooo Hooo!!!!!

OK, Wait!!   Let's REALLY talk Country!!   Don't get any more Country than this!!!!!!   Steve Earl!!  'Copperhead Road'!!!

I was watching a rerun of 'King of Queens' (My other fav is 'Two and a Half Men!!)  and heard a line I'm still laughing to myself over!!  Doug and Carrie (actully Carrie was) babysitting their friend's 2 little boys, and when Doug comes home he says!  " Well, no one is missing and you're not drunk, so I guess it went OK'!!"  Not sure why but I've been laughing to myself all night!!  Mrs S is not as amused!!  But it KILLED me!!!

Hope you like the VERY Country song!!

    YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Maytag guy showed up today and supposedly fixed the fridge.  He was here for 2 hours so I hope it works now.  He's still here!   And I took PICS!!    He replaced the compressor and we will knowe if it's working properly tomorrow morning!  He had me lock the dogs outside and open up all of the doors and windows because he had to use a blowtorch to perform the repair.  So far it 'sounds' like it's working!!

    Woooo Hoooo!!!  There he IS!!

    Maytag 003

He told me that he was installing the 'new and improved' version of the compressor and when I asked why we didn't get this version a year ago when we bought the darned thing, he just shrugged!  That's M-A-Y-T-A-G!!!  Anyhow..  we should have a cold fridge tomorrow morning and hopefully ICE!!

    Maytag 001

All of that equipment made me nervous....  especially the blowtorch!!!

    Here is our savior!!!

    Maytag 004

Yeah... the little guy in the white socks!

Oh!  I forgot to mention that he immediately broke his flashlight........ and then MINE!!   That's M-A-Y-T-A-G!!!

I just hope it's COLD tomorrow morning!

    Maytag 005

As promised, I will be playing non-country music for the rest of the week..... or as long as I can stand it!  Here is one that I had played recently by 10 CC!  I'm open for requests.  Cheap Trick and Bon Jovi are sounding like good ideas!  CCR?????   Supertramp???

Sorry folks!!  I JUST HAD to put this song up tonight!!  I'll try to get back to the Non-Country tomorrow!!  But this is TOO good not to play!~  Vince Gill is the presenter.   Alan Jackson at the CMA's (Country Music Awards) a few years ago!

Seriously....  I hope you listen to this and REMEMBER!!   9/11 Song!

    January 28

Okay!! What Is That Big Yellow Thing??

OH!!  It must be Mr. SUN!!  Haven't seen the old guy for a week but he was a very welcome sight!  We get 2 day's respite before the next storm moves in.  This one is what they are calling an 'inside slider'.  It's a storm that developes to the south, moves north and then slams onshore!!  So it 'slides' up the coast!  Not usually big storms but after the past week, who needs it!

For my music tonight I had a few choices including two versions of this song.  One by the Eagles and the other by Clint Black!!  My good friend Judy http://canadianprairiegirl2.spaces.live.com/ helped me decide on Clint!  (I always wanted to have the name Clint as a nickname...... or Rocky??)  so it's dedicated to her!!  She is a sweet lady so go and visit her.

The SuperBowl is happening on Sunday and I'm revving up for it!!  Go Giants!!  HAH!!  As for food, I'm thinking the usual Buffalo Wings and maybe Shrimp.  Guacamole and chips sounds good too along with other small munchies!  And yes, I WILL be cleaning my TV screen yet again!

Oh, and if anyone would like my Buffalo Wing recipe, just ask!!  I share!!!!!

I managed to lug those 400lb trash bins to the street today but I hope the trash truck doesn't topple over while lifting them up!

OH!!  Maytag (That's M-A-Y-T-A-G) called us today to inform us that they will be here tomorrow.... MAYBE!!!

Sorry about the short post tonight but I might be back later to add a few thoughts or other inane things!

OK!  I DO love this version of this song but I'm considering abandoning 'country' for some other music starting tomorrow!!   This should appease Haphazard Kat!!  Sheesh!!  But who knows what goofy crap I might come up with?   Ya take your chances here!

Weird crap going on here again!!  This has been going on for awhile!!  Midnight..... the doorbell rings.... there is a cute, young girl at the gate (this time NOT Asian!) asking for Kent or Carl or Fred, etc... but since I'm not any of them I send her on her way!!  She was cute and had the correct address but WTH!!  I'm pretty sure she was a prostitute because across the street was a HUGE Mercedes but NOPE, I didn't order a prostitute tonight!  LOL!  She was polite and apolegetic and I felt sorry for her!!  How do these young girls get roped into this shit?  Oh Yeah!!  MONEY!!  Now I wish I had walked across the street and confronted the ass in the Mercedes!!  And why MY house??  This is the 5th time!  We called the police before but as usual we got the big 'DUH'!!!!    IDIOT COPS!!  Did I mention that she was a Blonde???

Damn!!  maybe she was from Maytag  (That's M-A-Y-T-A-G)!!!

It just happened again!!  This time a young Asian girl and a red Lexus parked across the street!!   Trust me!!  I didn't 'order' them and I'm not all that HOT!!  Actually.... not hot at all!!  This is NOT a whore house!!!!!

    Good and Bad!

Today was a little Better than yesterday was!

GOOD!!  Slept in until 11:00 AM..  Is that a bad thing on a Sunday??

BAD!!  Mrs S sent me to the store to pick up fixin's for dinner and since we are now confined to relying on our backup 'garage' fridge, we needed everything.

GOOD!!   I manged to get there and back without getting drenched by rain, which is unusual!

BAD!!   I was then 'ball 'n chained' to the kitchen to clean up her mess!  I think she watches WAY too much Food Channel and thinks she has a staff ready to move in and clean up for her.  But I really don't mind because she is a great cook and I AM her staff!

GOOD!!   The sun came out today!!  Twice!!

BAD!!   Heavy rain and winds between the sunshine...

GOOD!!   Those pork chops have been replaced so there will be an awesome dinner tonight!!

BAD!!   I will be cleaning up the kitchen yet again!!

So I guess all in all it was a pretty good Sunday.  It looks as if our rain will be staying around until Tuesday with a new set of storms coming Thursday.  Wait!!  Oh Great!!  They just issued a severe thunderstorm warning with nickel size hail and possible tornados!!  ARRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I WANT MY SUN BACK!!!!!

NOT good here but to alleave the wet, stormy torture, I'm posting the R U Serious 'theme song'!  Love this song!!!!   Pretty Rockin' for a Country song!!!

This rain is relentless!!  More moving onshore and harder than ever!! The last time I saw rain this hard there was lawn furniture floating down the street!!  Bonnie and I are watching for it as we speak!!  LOL!  Can yo say 'Sideways Rain'????    And now we have cars and people in the L.A.River!!!   YES... we have a river!!  LOL!

Even San Diego is getting beaten up!

    January 26

    GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

It has NOT been an award winning day at the Serious household.  Still waiting to see what else might go wrong.

#1   Sears calls at 7:30 AM  (7:30 AM ?????) to inform us that we are late with a payment.  I stagger to my computer and make the payment online but in doing so, I notice that the actual due date is February 2!!  They are NOW on my Sh*t list!!

#2   I open the fridge to get some ice and it has completely SHUT DOWN!!  I mean, the freezer was at 50 degrees!!  So we lost tons of food including those beautiful $10 pork chops we were having for dinner tonight.  We called Maytag (that's M-A-Y-T-A-G) because it's still under warranty and they told us that they will send someone right out.....  on MONDAY!!!!!  The good news??  They will replace any lost food WITHOUT HAVING A RECEIPT!!   So let's see......  3 roasts, 2 turkeys, 8 pounds of butter, 3 dozen eggs, all of that bacon, plus those pork chops!!  I'm pretty sure I can make up more imaginary food for Maytag (that's M-A-Y-T-A-G) to reimburse us for!  Any suggestions???

#3   I spent the past 2 hours chopping down the HUGE cactus on the side of our house, in the rain, so that the window guy can get close enough to do his thing.  Now the trash cans weigh about 400lbs!!  Oops!  I'll have to rent a forklift to get those things to the street!

#4   The 5th and final in a series of storms is also the most massive and it's looming just offshore!  It's scheduled to move in tonight bringing heavy rains, snow, hail, thunder and tornados.  Up tp 5" of rain as it will be staying here through tomorrow!  You folks living East of here are in for a fun time!!

Other than that, things are just peachy here at my house!  I'm hoping the worst is over but I doubt it.  But there's always tomorrow to look forward to!

Had a GREAT dinner tonight!!   That helped!  Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes w/ gravy and creamed corn!!  And for dessert??  Key Lime Pie!!!!!

Tomorrow, God help us all, the R U Serious theme song will be back!!  I missed it!!!!  What do you think about THAT????

So far the rains have been 'polite' but who knows what later tonight and tomorrow will bring!!  Already have had tornado warnings!!   I might be staying up all night so as not to get blindsided!!  HATE when that happens!  My wife does that to me!  You women would just LOVE her!!!  She is a COOL lady!!!!!!!

Changing songs....... As Usual!!!!!!  Deal with It!!!!

This is a 5 kleenex one!  Sorry............!  OK... 10  Tissues????

    A Snowed-in So Cal

    From the Los Angeles Times:

Travelers are trapped at the Grapevine; I-5 is shut indefinitely. More snow, rain on the way.
By Amanda Covarrubias and Molly Hennessy-Fiske, Los Angeles Times Staff Writers
    January 25, 2008
A fierce winter storm left the Southland's mountain regions battered and snow-crusted Thursday, and hundreds of motorists found themselves stranded along Interstate 5 in the Tejon Pass after public safety officials ordered the key artery closed indefinitely as they braced for yet another icy tempest.

Frustrated commuters and truckers spent Wednesday night and Thursday morning trapped in the notorious Grapevine area north of Los Angeles before the California Highway Patrol finally cleared them to move in the early afternoon. Some residents of lower mountain elevations were snowed in, while heavy rains caused traffic accidents and minor flooding in Southern California lowlands.

"We just had to park there and sleep," said trucker Ted Dale, who was snowed in Wednesday night near Gorman. He was heading from Los Angeles to Seattle with a load of pineapples Wednesday night when the CHP ordered him to stop his 18-wheeler on the freeway. "There was no place to turn around."

About 30 passengers on a Greyhound bus heading from Southern California to Sacramento were forced to sleep in the vehicle overnight in the middle of the freeway. They were still stranded in Gorman 24 hours later because their driver had reached his limit on the number of hours he was allowed to operate the vehicle, and no fresh drivers could reach them to take over, the passengers said.

"This is worse than jail," said passenger Ilario Cazarez, a dance promoter from Los Angeles who was trying to make his way to Portland.

About 70,000 motorists travel through the serpentine Grapevine each day. Closure of the state's major north-south artery caused major traffic headaches.

In addition to causing traffic mayhem, snow forced scientists at Mount Wilson Observatory to shut down their telescopes as staff pulled out snowplows that spent last winter in storage.

In another strange climate turn late Thursday night, the National Weather Service issued two tornado warnings for southwest Los Angeles County, including Malibu, Pacific Palisades and the Topanga area. The weather service said a strong rotating thunderstorm was spotted about 9 p.m. over the eastern half of Malibu, moving north-northeast at about 20 mph.

Much earlier in the day, Los Angeles County saw light snowfall as low as 3,000 feet, with up to a foot sticking at 3,500 feet and 18 inches sticking at 4,500 to 5,500 feet, according to Stuart Seto, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. Nearly 2 feet of snow fell in the Lockwood Valley.

Forecasters expected another 1 to 2 feet of snow to fall above 4,000 feet by tonight with a few inches falling between 2,500 and 4,000 feet. The mountains of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties can expect 5 to 10 inches of rain; coastal and valley areas 2 to 5 inches.

This week's snow is a product of cold storms moving south from the Gulf of Alaska and is expected to raise precipitation totals closer to normal annual levels, said state climatologist Michael Anderson. Last year, the Southland experienced its worst dry spell in more than a century.

Now a tropical storm laden with moist air is headed north from Mexico. It is likely to drop rain and snow in the mountains this weekend and drive up snow totals, Anderson said.

In the San Bernardino National Forest on Thursday, ski resorts were basking under several feet of powder.

"It's a winter wonderland right now, awesome conditions, perfect packed powder and more on the way," said Chris Riddle, director of marketing at Big Bear Mountain Resorts, which got 10 inches of snow Thursday.

Even non-skiers can appreciate the benefits of what is shaping up to be a normal winter, Riddle said.

"Fresh snow in Southern California is kind of like the Holy Grail," he said. "It's good for skiing, great for the forest; helps replenish the water table. It's good for all of us."

Back in the town of Castaic, where truckers gathered en masse to wait for Interstate 5 to reopen, Arturo Sarabia, 44, of Los Angeles was buying coffee and pastries. After spending the night in the cab of their big rigs, some truckers couldn't start their engines in the morning because it was so cold. Others found that their brakes had frozen.

"For me it was OK," said Sarabia, who was hauling produce to the San Francisco Bay Area from Los Angeles. "I had a heater and everything, and I left my truck running all night long."

Along California 138, which connects to Interstate 5 near Gorman, about half a dozen truckers had pulled over Thursday morning, waiting for the CHP to reopen the freeway.

Shane Nadarevic, 25, of New York, who was carrying a load of graphics equipment from Dallas to San Francisco, passed the time by sleeping in his truck.

He said CHP officers had come by that morning with hot soup and snacks, and he was taking the delay in stride.

"It's a job," Nadarevic said. "You can't really expect everything to go your way."

I'm sure that all of you in the Midwest and East coast are looking forward to this coming your way!

Here is what the 101 Freeway looked like this morning:

    Freeway

It's gonna be a long, wet weekend!

Oh, and as for Bert the Tortoise??  He's snug and cozy hibernating under the enclosed patio!

As an aside....  I've been try SOO hard to get a particular song on my space but JUST can't do it!!  So if you have access to Limewire, MP3 Rocket, Yahoo Jukebox or another music site, please look up and listen to the Jimmy Buffett song 'Brand New Country Star'!!  I've been trying to download it for DAYS!!  And if you find it??  Email me the stinking URL!  I have the CD but it's NOT helping!  OH!!  It's raining again!!  Go figure!!

There was a big avalanche here tonight at the Mountain High ski resort today and at least 2 are dead!  NOT good to go skiing 'out of bounds', but this guy worked for the Ski Patrol and should have known better.  Sad.....

Massive mudslides here and many homes crashing down!  Being 'Flatlanders', we are fine!  Just sad to watch since they ARE still neighbors!

And guess what??  Here come the next 2 storms!!  And then there's the fire at the Monte Carlo Hotel in Las Vegas!  I think the Apocalypse is coming SOON!!!

I'm watching the violence in Kenya, Africa (600 people killed today, by Machete!!!) and it pisses me off!!  What is wrong with these people ????? GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry but I need to change songs!   OK?   A Fav!!   Older Jimmy Buffett.  LOVE this song!!

    No Cabin!

Had to cancel our cabin trip because of the heavy snow but maybe next weekend!  There was already a foot of snow there with 2 more storms on the way!  I woke up to 1/2" of hail!  Our winds are out of the Southeast and blowing hard, which is NOT good!!! It means that the storms will be slowed and will last longer.

It's difficult to predict weather when it's coming off of the ocean, ya know??  They tend to slide up and down the coast, pick up more moisture and then slam onshore.  The next two look bad and HEAVY, but who knows?

Watched our 2 L.A. Hockey teams play each other tonight... The Ducks and the hapless L.A Kings, although at this point the Kings are actually winning..... somehow!!

I received an older Jimmy Buffet CD today so I thought I would play one of his funnier songs!! Hope you enjoy it!

OH!  And not only do I have to watch the Kings maul my Ducks (3 to 0 now!!) but the guest analyst is...... Tommy Lasorda!!  ARRRRGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Lord help me!!!!!!!!

Crap!! Watching the Weather Channel and they say we are in for it tonight!  4" of rain with hail and thunder!!  OK for us but I worry about the areas that were stripped of the vegatation due to those wildfires!!  They are defenseless and there WILL be huge mudslides!!  We are OK for now, except for some urban flooding.

The usual scenario... First the fires and than the rains and floods!!  Soo sad for those people!

OK!  Things have taken a turn for the worse here!!  The winds have picked up and the rain is pummeling us!!  We have a steel roof and the sound is almost unbearable. Interstate 5  is closed and so is the alternate route so Northern and Southern California are cut off from each other!!  The Cajon Pass (the Grapevine)  is completely shut down!!  BAD!!  Very Bad!!  And the next storm??  Even bigger!!  My dogs won't even venture outside!!  By Wednesday we should be OK!!

I'm going to bed and pulling the blankets over my head!!

    Hockey Night in...... So Cal?????

Got tickets to the Detroit Red Wings/Anaheim Ducks game tonight and of course I went!!  Even it's only January it was Playoff Hockey!  BRUTAL!!  VERY intense, many fights and chippy play and if it's your cup of tea, lots of blood on the ice.  If you are not a hockey fan you are excused to stop reading now.  Not YOU Judy!! LOL!  Detroit is leading the league now but the Ducks are coming on fast!!  Plus they have won the last 6 home meetings between these teams.

I remember attending the first game that the Ducks (Mighty Ducks then...) ever played and it was against these guys.  I think the score was 12 to 1!  But the Ducks won the Stanley Cup last year and are known as the most physical team in the League.

The Ducks ended up losing 2 to 1 but it was a GREAT game and what more can you ask for?  Right????

Going to the cabin does NOT look good!!  At this point it is snowing heavily and I'm afraid they are gonna close the roads down.  No one up and no one down.  Dang it!!!  But there will be many other times soon.  Just as well I guess....  I was not looking forward to putting up the dog run in the snow and hammering rebar into the frozen ground!  We may still go however, depending on our crazy weather!

WE bought yet ANOTHER laptop today!!  Mrs Serious' girlfriend had a Gateway MX6421 that she didn't want to keep so she sold it to us CHEAP!  She paid $1200 for it a year ago but since she owed Mrs S $350, we gave her another $100 and got it, plus a wireless mouse, keyboard, a wireless router and a nice carrying case.  It's nice but really needs some more memory added and the processor could have a little more muscle, but what a deal!

I'm playing a Garth Brooks song tonight because Becca (http://lilbitofthisandthat.spaces.live.com/) requested it and she is such a sweet person!!   If you don't like it?  Talk to HER!!!! lol  I try to do my best to keep my friends smiling and happy!!

OH!!  I went to my dental appointment today for the 'test drive', and saw my dentist running across the parking lot towards me, so my instincts told me to cover up and get into a fetal position!   Turns out he had bad news!!  Someone else's teeth had arrived with MY NAME on them so I will have to wait until tomorrow!!  Crap!!  What a waste of a long drive!  But he was very apologetic so I didn't kill him on the spot! lol

Busy day tomorrow so I gotta go!!  Take care and I'll have new music up tomorrow, now that Becca has been appeased!!  Kidding!!  Bless you Becca!!!

    January 22

    CABIN!!

We are definitely going to the cabin this weekend!  It's snowing, I might have my new teeth and it just feels right!!  The elusive KEY has been found!!  LOL  We are inviting a few friends and it should be FUN!!  Wish you ALL could be there!!  My wife has a 'special' meal planned so that makes it even better!!  As long as I don't have to cook!

The rain here has been off and on but we expext alot more on Friday.  Apparently there is a LOW off of the coast and when that moves east, there are 3 more waiting to move in!  So, rain until Tuesday!!!!  Temps in the 50's, but that's only cold for us here in So Cal!

Mrs Serious is out at a dinner tonight with her girlfriends but I hope she remembers to bring me back 2 Chile Rellanos, as requested.  If not???  She will PAY!!!  LOL  The restaurant they went to is my FAVORITE Mexican place and I'm jealous!!  The food will appease me....!  They serve an appetizer (upon request!) of marinated carrots, onions and jalapeno peppers that is to kill for!!  And the BEST Margaritas EVER!!  But as far as the food, you never know how hot (spicy hot!) it will be.  BEST Tacos anywhere and their Chile Rellanos are killers!!  Oh, and their refried beans and their rice??.......  Nuff said!  Nothing like GREAT Mexican food!!  I always wanted to open a Mexican restaurant and name it 'Don't Touch The Plate... It's Hot'!!

My song tonight is in answer to a request from Tracie (http://theotherblonde.spaces.live.com/) I hope you like it sweetie!  Bless YOU!!

People!!  See how that works??  You request and I play!!  And Becca??  Yours is coming up SOON!

Hope that you are having a GREAT week and I'm TRYING to get to all of you to comment!!  I'm BAD!!!  But I have a good heart and I do love you ALL!

OH Crap!!  The weather forecast is changing!!  1/2" per HOUR of rain thru Saturday???  Bring in the dogs!!!!!  And the cabin??  I guess I'll be shoveling the white stuff!!     1/2" PER HOUR????????  I have good snow tires on my SUV so I'm pretty sure we can make it 'up the hill', but we may be there for awhile.  OK by me!  Woooo Hoooo!!!!  Nothing like being snowed IN!!

Rain Here... Snow at the Cabin!!!

Much needed rain is here for at least the next 5 days.  Not heavy but hopefully steady stuff mixed in between the showers.  The snow level is down to 3000 feet and Crestline is 4000, so it looks like snow there!  We're gonna try to drive up there to the cabin this weekend.  My dogs have never seen snow so it should be interesting.  Plus, I'll finally have a chance to try out the new laptop there!!  Wooo Hooo!!

Other than that, today was a typical Monday..... Clean the kitchen. take out trash, laundry, etc.  Tomorrow will be more of the same, and when the rain goes away it will be yardwork time.  Lots to do out there and I'm sure the dogs will be a BIG help!!!  NOT!!!!

Wednesday is my denture 'test drive' and I hope I only need one!  I'm excited to be getting permanent ones.

Tonight's song is by Confederate Railroad, who you may have never heard of, but they are good and a funny band!!  Hope you enjoy this one.  I'll play a few of their's this week.  Nite all!!  Have a GREAT rest of the week!!!

    Great Games!!

I REALLY didn't care who won (I'm an Eagles fan!), I just wanted exciting games and they both were!  Especially the Giants-Packers game.  Nothing like overtime in -30 temps to, what?, get the blood flowing??  Are the Giants hot or what?  As for the Chargers, they played very well but just couldn't overcome the cold, injuries, and playing the Pats at their home stadium.  Still, they beat the spread and had their chances. And I won my bet!

Now for the Superbowl, I'm sure that New England will be favored but don't count Eli and the Giants out!  They have a tough defense and Manning is finally coming into his own.  Hopefully, a decent Superbowl for a change.

I'm now getting my head together for Baseball season!!  And the Hockey playoffs!  GO DUCKS..... Again!  As for the NBA??   EHH!!!

I hope you all had good weekends!  We are expecting 5 days of rain starting tonight.  Oh Boy!!!

I hope most of you have tomorrow off, but either way, have a GREAT week!!

Tonight's music is more Mark Chestnutt.... again.  Still deciding which song to play....... Hmmmm?

    I promise a good one!

And no more complaints about me repeating songs (KAT!) ok??  I play what the mood feels like.

    Can't Wait!!!

For the football games tomorrow!!  I have my snacks set up, going to bed sorta early and pulling up a soft, comfy chair to watch!  I even cleaned the TV screen!!!  Becky wants to go to the swap meet (flea market) tomorrow but I need at least 3 hours to get set up, so forget that!!

My picks are Green Bay and the Pats.....  although I'm hoping that my Chargers can pull off an upset!!  SWEET!!!
Between the weather and the Pats it will be tough, but the 'Bolts' defense might just make the difference......BECCA!!!!  lol!   I hope you all enjoy the games!!!!!  I will!

New song tonight!  Mark Wills.   Again with the tissues...... sorry

Football, Talkin' About FOOTBALL..... and Snow!

I opened up the Sports page of the Los Angeles Times today and found this GREAT article!!   And this guy isn't even one of their sports writers!!  But it was so funny that I had to share it!  Funny but TRUE!!

January in Green Bay? Now, that's perfect weather for football.
By Chris Erskine, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
    January 18, 2008
Memo to Mother Nature: "Listen, Mom, you've probably got better things to worry about. There's the drought in the Southeast and that whole global warming thing. But this Sunday, in either Green Bay or Foxborough, could you arrange for a little snow?"

For some reason, snow turns an already great sport into something mystical. Who knows why. Maybe Irving Berlin could explain. But there is something about watching football in the snow that just seems to warm the heart.

Yep, football is like duck hunting -- meant for the out of doors, best by the light of God. It's finest in places like Ann Arbor or Cleveland. Boulder or Buffalo. It's best in stadiums where the fall-winter breezes put a little Irish in your cheeks. Real football is played against skies painted like battleships.

"It's a perfect day for football," the announcers like to say at the opening of a game in Florida or Arizona, then recite the conditions -- sunny, 75 degrees, light winds from the south.

Um, dude, it's a football game, not a spa trip.

To me, here's the ideal forecast for a football game: Storm clouds gathering at 300 feet, an arctic front barreling in from Duluth, a 20% chance of frostbite.

Football was never fashioned to be played indoors, in some billionaire's giant living room, with starlets in the stands. From its earliest days, football was always served raw. It appealed mostly to guys named Bronko and Otto and Dutch. Men from mill towns played it on weekends instead of brawling with their brothers.

Even today, the very best football towns -- Pittsburgh, Chicago, Green Bay -- won't even consider an indoor park. Fans there appreciate the competitive edge a dreary day brings. The way the players' foggy breath hangs over the field in warmups. The drunk in Aisle 17 in a Santa hat and no shirt.

Perhaps it's the unpredictability bad weather brings, the mistakes, the fumbles, the extra entertainment value. Snow certainly adds that fourth dimension to the sport: nature. Without the vagaries of nature, football has all the resonance of a retirement home poker game.

In bad weather a punt is never just a punt. It's a jailbreak . . . a free-for-all . . . a palace coup. In bad weather, each quarterback snap is a tiny drama. Hut. Hut. Whoops.

There are two times a year it should absolutely, positively snow: Christmas Eve and during a playoff game at Lambeau Field.

Did you see Brett Favre last Sunday pinwheeling across the frozen tundra, in a move he stole from Peggy Fleming? And that little flip to Donald Lee? That wasn't a pass, it was a beer hall belch. The Russian judge gave the whole thing a 9.

You think Favre likes snow? You think Jessica Simpson likes Bloomingdale's?

"I've been hoping for that for 17 years," said Favre, who wore his layer of snow like a prince's cape. In the stands, cheeseheads and snowballs. It may as well have been raining schnapps.

Meanwhile, along the sideline, flurries were piling up on Mike Holmgren's cap. He looked like the coldest man in America, didn't he? Frosty the Football Coach. At halftime, I wanted to send over a St. Bernard and a fifth of Remy Martin.

Ah, snow. The most epic battles always seem to take place in the snow. George Washington in the prow of his rowboat. Napoleon falling off his steed near Moscow. Hut. Hut. Whoops.

Speaking of which, Robert Frost once wrote of stopping his horse to watch the woods fill with snow. Me, I'd rather flick on the TV and open the fridge. But I share his sense of storybook moments. I share his love of a good winter blanket.

The forecast for Foxborough on Sunday is for partly cloudy skies, windy, with highs in the 20s. In Green Bay, they're calling for highs of 7, with skies the color of battleships.

That's football. That's fun. So come on, Mama Nature, be a sport. Two big servings of cold confetti.

Just put it on our tab.

I'm looking forward to watching Sunday's NFC/AFC Championship games and yes, I'm still hoping my Chargers can pull off an upset!  I just hope it snows at BOTH games!!  And if last weekend's games were any indication, this weelend's should be exciting!!  So polish up your cheesheads!!!

Jimmy Buffet, as promised!  Trust your intuition... A lesson for all of us in this world!!
    Peace....!

    I'm BORED!!!

But apparently my little Terrier is NOT!!   Bonnie has been racing around here all day!!   Chasing crows, barking out the window, climbing up my leg!! (OUCH!!)   She just took on Buzz, who is twice her size, and sent him running off!   She has this new technique which involves standing on her hind legs and 'boxing' with her front paws!!  CUTE!!!! ....but don't tell Buzz that!   Now she is sitting on the top of the couch and scanning the sidewalk watching for possible intruders!!   It's a huge picture window that we like to call her 'TV'!!

    My Bonnie

My dogs have such different personalities but they have become very good friends.  Besides Bonnie, there is Buzz, the guy who just got his butt handed to him!

    MVC-014S

He's a rescue dog from a shelter and a few years ago ruptured several disks in his spine.  The surgeon performed a 'spine replacement' and he is doing fine now!   He still has a slight 'hitch in his giddy-up', but he was a brave soldier!

Then there's Baxter, our miniature, long-haired Dachshund!!

    Baxter 6

He's a cutie but because of his size, gets picked on alot!!   But the other two let him exist because he's the one who tells Daddy when it's dog food time!

So there you have 'em!!  My canine kids!!   How can I be bored with them around????

I changed songs back to that Dan Seals one..... just because!!   And the fact that I love it!   Enjoy (with a box of tissues)!!

*************************************************************************************** Just watched Bourne Ultimatum!!  WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!  Definitley the BEST of the 'Bourne' series!!  Nonstop action, Super car chases and the fight scenes were over the top!!  BUT... you must watch the first two films before you watch this one!!  On a scale of 1 to 5???   10!!!  MUST SEE!!  Just maybe the best movie I've ever seen!  Do you think I liked it?????

Sawyer Brown music tonight!!  Tomorrow... maybe Jimmy Buffet!!  And if y'all are lucky??  Confederate Railroad!!  HAH!!
    January 16

    GRRRRR!!!!

Hmmm.... I did NOT make it to the cabin today!  Two things prevented me from going.  #1.  70 mph winds in the mountains today!  No way am I driving up that hill in those winds!  What??  You callin' me a Wimp??  YOU try it!!!  It's a killer drive WITHOUT any wind!  HAH!!  And #2?  Becky loaned out the keys to her cousin last weekend so even if I had made the drive I would have been sitting on the front porch, cussing and throwing my hat!!  Oh well, another time.....  Oh Great!!  The cousin just showed up!!  WITHOUT the keys!!  Durn it!!  And now he says he can't FIND them!!  Knucklehead!!  LOL!

On a happier note, we got a quote on having 7 windows replaced with vinyl ones and it was only $2300!!  This guy has done work for us before (garage door, backdoor) so we know he does quality work!!  I think it's a steal!!!

I'm gonna cut this short (the cousin is here and I need to frisk him!) but I'll probably be back to add something later!!  Sorry about not having any mountain pics, but soon!

The winds are a'howlin tonight in So Cal!!  Glad I didn't try to make the trek to the cabin!!  It's a little scary when the house shakes and the winds actually 'howl'!!  No damage yet..... except fot the hammock making loop-d-loops!  We have a small wind chime that we received from a dear Japanese exchange student, and when it 'sings', we KNOW the winds are out of the Northeast!!  It blew off it's hook tonight!!

Hopefully tomorrow it will be calmer... and warmer!!  My little Cairn Terrier, Bonnie, just came in looking like Tina Turner on a bad hair day!!  LOL!!  MAN!!  It's BLOWIN' Here!!!!!!

Back to the R U Serious 'Theme Song'!!  Listen up folks!!!!!  Whadda Ya Think About THAT???

    Peace, my friends!

    Idol!

Yeah... I watched American Idol tonight and I loved it!!  The early ones are the best because the clueless people are on!  I have a great Video to show you!  It's Hillary Clinton and,....  Oh wait!!  This is Porn!!!  NOOOOOO  Hillary??????  Get offf him!!  Don't...  Oh CRAP!!  Now wipe that OFF!!   And wash your hands!!  EWWWWWW  That was Bill's job  Dagnabbit!!  Can't leave those two alone for a second!

    Sorry folks........

Anywho...  (Whew...)   This song is for my GREAT Friend KAT!!  For some reason she can't tolerate Country!!  Go figure!!  I hope this settles her down!!

I will be spending the next few days at the cabin....ALONE!!     No problems.... Just sone BOB time!!  And test-driving the new laptop!!  Beautiful weather there and I'm sure the stupid squirells are hungry!!  nuts to them!!!  I'll take pics!!!!

    A Wing and a Prayer

Not really sure where this post will go, but I do enjoy blogging everyday..... just for my mental health?  lol

I was driving down the freeway today and this song came on the radio.  It's an oldie by Dan Seals and really sad, but I love it so I thought I would share.  I hope y'all like it but you might need some kleenex!  I know that I love it!!!!

Now, the reason I was on the 405 freeway was because I had a dental appointment today.  It was MUCH better and less painful than last week's was but I was still in the chair for over an hour.  As I was leaving, my dentist grabbed my arm and told me that I was the best patient he's ever had!  When I asked him why, he said it was because I never flinch.... no matter how painful the procedure, and because the staff actually looks FORWARD to my appointments!!  Go figure!!  I mean, I know they all stop by to say hello, but I had no idea that my dental work was the high point of their week!!!  Funny!!!!  OH!!  My dentist also told me that these new dentures should fit really well because I have good bones!!  No wonder my wife calls me a bonehead!!!!

Well, I've told you how much I like my new gardeners and what a great job they do (like weeding, fertilizing, raking up leaves from the flower beds..)  but what they did Saturday BLEW ME AWAY!!!!  Get this!!  They PRUNED the 5 rose bushes we have!!!!   I couldn't beleive my eyes!!  Mid-January is the perfect time for rose pruning in coastal California and they did a SUPER job!!  I think I'll be giving them a little 'extra $' this week!!

So,  enjoy the 'new' song and have a wonderful rest-of-the-week!!!  I'm STILL trying to make the 'rounds'!!

    Take care!

You REALLY need to listen to this song!!!!!!!!  And you'd better well LOVE it!!  LOL!!  I'm SERIOUS!!!!!!!!  This song is KILLING me!!!!  LOL!!

    January 13

    WOW!!

Anyone watching the 'Sarah Conner Chronicles'??  AWESOME!!  At least so far... for the first 5 minutes!!  But I LOVE IT!!

Almost as good as the football games this weekend!!  Saturday was the usual, where the favorites won... Green Bay and New England!  Both Great games!! But today was very surprising!!  My team (The Bolts!) surprised the Colts and will move on!  Just too bad that their QB and their best running back, LT, got hurt!!  Without them it will be a long day in New England next weekend.  Green Bay fell behind early but came back to win BIG!!

Then the Giants upset the Cowboys at Texas Stadium!!  Eli Manning is looking better every week.  All of the games featured rough play with alot of HUGE, but clean, hits!!  I'm SOOOO glad that I took up accounting as a profession!!  I broke a nail once on the adding machine but no internal injuries!!

So, next weekend, NY Giants at Lambau to play the Packers and My Chargers in New England!  I'm counting on the Packers to win at home and HOPING the Chargers can pull off an upset against the Pats!  And if not??  Pats and Packers would make for a GREAT Super Bowl!!

I had a FEW complaints about my music here so I decided to put up a 'sweet' love song tonight!!  Grab a tissue Hap Kat!!  See how sensitive I am???

Tomorrow is yet another dentist appointment but hopefully not as bad as last week!!  He will be taking a wax impression of my gums (YECH!!) and comparing it to the one he wrenched out last week!! If all is well, I get to 'test drive' my new teeth next week, make any adjustments, and then I am home free.... and about $12,000 poorer!  At this point, I have forgotten how much we paid!!  I just want it OVER with!  Actually, these temporary ones are working well so I'll save them as back-ups!

Well, that;s all from the Serious space except to say that Mama is back and I hope y'all had GREAT weekends!!  I'm still working my way thru my friends list so PLEASE be patient!!  Maybe 82 friends is too many??   But I love ALL of you and I WILL be there!!

And this song is for HapKat who is under the delusion that SuperTramp will come up with a new song anytime soon!   Country IS the new Rock!! HAH!!  But I DOOOOO Love her!!!!  She Rocks!!!!

I'm sitting here crying tonight.. but it's OK!!  Just listening to country music and thinking, ya know?? Happy tears!!  LOL!!    COOL song tonight!!!  Hope y'all like it!  It's killing me , but I LOVE It!!

    Nite!!!

YES!!!!!  This IS the NEW R U Serious Theme Song!!

    Party Time HERE!!

Well, not really, but I'm having fun with alone with the dogs, watching football and cooking my roast!!  The weather here today is Perfect!!  66F and sunny!!  I'm watching a great football game as Green Bay is beginning to dismantle the Seattle Seahawks!!  Brett Favre has GOT to be the best QB ever!!  Especially being 38 years old!!

I'm really looking forward to watching 'Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles' tomorrow night!!!!  It looks GOOD!!  I also have the DVD 'Bourne Ultimatum' so I may watch that tonight!!

Now,  if y'all  thought yesterday's music on here was Country, wait until you hear THIS one!!  This sucker ROCKS!!!!  So hitch up those boot-jeans, slide into your boots, adjust that cowboy hat and have a listen!!  This song ROCKS!!  Just ask Katsoup!!!!  Doesn't get more Country than this..... except maybe tomorrow's!!!  And if you own a tractor, start it up!!!!!   .......OK, forget that!!!  But I'm thinking that this song might just be the R U Serious 'theme song'!  Scary, huh??  OH!!  And be sure to turn up your speakers or use headphones!!  LOL!

Well, I guess I'm done.... Blah, Blah, Blah....  But you never know with this Ol' Boy!!!

Yeah.... I'm back!!   Took a nice 'cruise' in the Z today along Pacific Coast Highway!!  Checked out the Surfer Girls, stopped off at the Huntington Beach Pier for lunch and then walked the beach!!  8 foot waves today but it was beautiful!!   We really need to hold a 'spaces' party there sometime!!  Y'all need to visit here sometime before the BIG earthquake makes Nevada 'Ocean Front Property'!!  HURRY!!  But today was PERFECT!!  And tomorrow??   75 degrees!!  HURRY!!!!

My awesome gardeners are here doing more work faster in 15 minutes than I could in an hour!!  Amazing!!!  And of course, my 'Weiner Dog" Baxter wants to go out and check out their work!!!  These guys are GREAT!!  Much better than that Ho Chi Minh guy we has before, although he is still doing the neighbor's yards!!  Takes hin 2 hours!!  Remember when I was having sod installed and he asked me if I need my 'dirt' mowed??  Well he hasn't been back since!!  lol
